I recently posted a question about vehicles used for recreation that use gasoline unnecessarily. From some of the replies I got it was obvious that some people didn't get the unnecessary part, comparing the small amount of gasoline used by, say skidoos , with necessary fuel burners like trucks. I feel guilty myself. I am long retired yet I own a car in a city with adequate public transportation. I own it because I can and don't want the inconvenience of taking a bus. My point is that we are going to have to do something sometime to avoid a catastrophe and if it takes government legislation to stop us burning diminishing fossil fuels unnecessarily and contributing to global warming and air polution. Future generations [if they are able to survive at all] will curse our memory. We are in a very serious situation.

Nothing. There is nothing I can do, and there is nothing you can do. We are tiny, powerless human beings. We have no influence. Someday soon, God will shake up this little ant farm called Earth, and it will all be over anyway.

campbelp2. gave an accurate assessment of masses of society but at the same time, it is important to move the direction of society towards certain goals. Without taking the first steps to conserve energy use cleaner energy and demand that everyone else does too, there is no progression.

People probably are selfish but even selfish people want to do right. Society pressures can play that roll and when one thing is clearly wrong like global warming it is up society to change it and pressure people into doing right. Its not like suddenly big money was involved recycling, civil rights, save the rain forest etc.

It is not always money that makes bad things right, it is a common belief that shuns whoever is outside of the thought process.

I am not saying hate them but do not accept there igornace.

If you can't see the altruistic side of argument, look at the obvious societal pressures we do cater too. No zits, dandruff, where the right clothes, and be cool. Its is the same thing just from a different angle.

I am not prepared to give up anything at all to save the environment, and you can rely on many people sharing my opinion. By I am willing to give up something to save money. I drive a small car and use compact fluorescent bulbs because it saves me money. And I will cover my roof with solar panels when I can save enough money on my electric bill to pay for the panels in a reasonably short time, like 5 years or so.

You will get absolutely nowhere telling people they have to make sacrifices because you think they should. But they will really jump on the band wagon to save money. Also, tell them they can stick it to the Arabs if they can find some energy source that isn't oil.

The scientist put this out because there is no money to study what is normal. They need to make a crises out of it to get paid to study it. If u cut off the money would be a good fix. Study photosynthesis and understand the plants are on our side.

yes it is a very serious sitch but i dont think anyone would give up anything. we will probably invent new stuff to replace the old like we do with everything.... we are to greedy and selfish to give up anything because we are always looking for ways to live life better.. it will work out in the end i have faith in our generation and our children!!!
