You have made a good point. The belief that God punishes for eternity is obviously not true, yet people insist on believing it to be so. What purpose does it serve to punish forever? None. If God is absolute, then there is never a destruction of the living soul, nor is there a purpose for eternal punishment. Just like a child, God sentences us according to our disobedience, and we receive instruction while we are carrying out that sentence. Time is relative, however. If your child is disrespectful, you might ground him for 1 day, and that would be a long time to a child. But if he stole something, you might ground him for a week, and that would be terribly long for a child. A month would seem like an eternity to a child. Similarly, we can receive a sentence for a long period of time, which could seem like an eternity, but it is not eternal, no matter what the bible says. The bible has no integrity.

If you're a committed Christian, then you should follow the Bible's instruction and stone him to death immediately. However, I think a lecture and grounding him for a litttle while will probably make the point that disrespectful behaviour is not tolerated in a way that's just as clear and not so illegal.

So in essence what you are saying is that you have a problem with the idea of hell?

Hell was not made for humans, it was made for Satan and the angels that followed Him. Will some humans go there - yes. But not because God wants them to. God does not want you to share the fate of Satan and his cohorts. In fact, He wants you to be with Him for all eternity. He loves you so much that He provided a way for you to do just that - through Christ Jesus.

So why even bother with hell? Why would a loving God even create such a place? Because God is not just love, He is also holy. His holiness dictates justice. Even in our own limited understanding of justice, we send people to jail for the duration of their lives when the crime is so heinous that letting it go unpunished would be a form of barbarism in itself.

God paid the price for all of our own 'crimes' - the only way someone will not be forgiven of their crimes is to not accept the gift of salvation.

Your choice.

Take action now and let him know that you will not tolerate this kind of behavior. If he gets away with it once, he'll know he can do it again.

Grounding a child to his room is actually sometimes not a punishment only due to the toys, activities, etc., that are at their access.

Take something away that's important to him such as the television, games, etc.

spanking him would do better. sometimes ur son somehow grew up not respecting u. try think back how u raised him. when i was little i was spanked all the time until i really hated my parents. they hav been patient all the time i scold them but in the end, when my brain was completly matured, i realised on the awful things i said. to make it up, i respect them for who they are. but giving spanks should hav proper reasons. like me, i was spanked b,coz sometimes i just get too cocky. if u were to spank him, do it in the right place.. dont make him think ur spanking him just for u own selfish reasons (like u wanna go to sleep, u spank him out of ur room). i cannot say when, b,coz im still not married and havnt experienced it b4.

No, tell him that you need to talk to him after you calm down a bit.

Apologize for any part you played in the argument, them explain how what he said made you feel.

Ignore any justification he may attempt. Think about what he is saying but ignore it for the moment.

Then ask him if he wanted to make you upset.

You may need to repeat this after several attempts by him at justification.

Try it.

Have him write out the fourth commandment and explanation.

The Fourth Commandment

You must honor your father and mother. [So that things will go well for you and you will live long on earth].

Q. What does this mean?

A. We must fear and love God, so that we will neither look down on our parents or superiors nor irritate them, but will honor them, serve them, obey them, love them and value them.

Of course not. We need to demonstrate the ability to forgive each other. Allah is Forgiving. The reaction needs to be equivalant to the action.

No, you should follow God's example and be infinitely patient and forgiving of him, even to the laying down of your own life to help him overcome his youthful foibles.

A loving parent would not do that, so to a loving God would not do something like that to His children.
