Hi, i take our treats when i am walking my dogs as one of mine is very headstrong,, I make sure he knows i have his treats, and when he runs off a little way, i call him back and reward him with a treat, i do also holds my arms out for him and jump about on the spot so he gets excited and runs back - i must look like a complete idiot - i always think.

Another thing is when i give him treats i have always said 'what this' before i give it to them which is probably the wrong thing to do) but now in times of desperation and he is not coming back - i call out 'Whats this' and it works.

Good luck, don't give up, and try not too worry as they pick up on this.

Well, you could start by just walking him on a lead around a small area. No one else around or anything that would take his attention. Make sure you take his favorite toy and treats. Then when you sure he's calm, let him off the lead and when you want to call him back, Call him excitedly and show him the toy, If he comes back reward him with a treat and give lots of praise. Keep doing this and gradually start to leave the toy at home but still reward him with a treat when he comes to you. After a while, say a few weeks after you've stop bringing the toy, call him and don't give him a treat but praise him loads! If you keep doing this he'll come to you because he gets lots of praise and makes you happy and he might get a treat. This works in theory. If you really stuggling you could even try a clicker when giving him the treat which he will associate with have done well. Good luck :)

Put your dog on a leash (a long one) with a pinch or a choke collar. Make sure you have a pocket full of "treats". Have the dog sit. Take a few steps away, then call his name. If he doesn't come right away, tug the leash. When he comes, have him sit and give him much praise and a treat. Take a few more steps away, then repeat all the directions above. Spend about ten minutes a day practicing this, but each day, get a few more steps away until he is at the end of his lead. It may take a week, it may take three, depending on your dog.

Eventually, you will be able to take him off his lead and do that. Every time he comes when you call, praise him. Once you have him trained, you no longer have to give him a food reward-he will learn to crave your praise and affection.

It can be life saving for your dog to master this skill. Good luck to you both!

For this to work you need a lot of treats....
In a quiet area (I used the lounge) get your dog to sit. Hold out you arm with your palm facing the dog and say "come". As the dog has no other distractions he should come over to you. The second he touches you Palm reward him with a treat. (I also used a clicker). Repeat this a few times until your dog gets the idea that when you say come, he must touch your hand, which gets him a treat.
Next try it by playing hide and seek. Get him to sit and wait; go to another area of the house and tell him to come: remember to hold out your palm. He'll love trying to find you, and will enjoy the treat to. Two treats for the price of one!!
Eventually he will come to you command and also recognise the hand signal (Useful if he is far away!!).
A lot of dogs assume (Rightly) that come means the end of their playing, so call him to come, give him the treat and allow him to play again. This will show him that coming to you is a good thing.
It takes time, but it really does work.

Start to train him on a long line so you're in control. Say 'come' and sound excited and enthusiastic as if you'd just won the lottery. Use the line to encourage him to come if you need to. Then make a huge fuss of him, give him a treat hug him, play with him and let him go off again. Do this frequently so he learns COME means something nice and NOT the end of his fun. NEVER NEVER punish him or he certainly won't want to come I know its tempting if you been calling for ages but don't. Keep using the line until you feel sure he'll come and then let it drop. Don't take it right off at first if he doesn't come it gives you a better chance of catching him Just sound pleased to see him when he does come. We had this problem with a rescue Irish setter so I do sympathise But remember1 Don't punish 2 don't chase- he'll think your playing Try going in the opposite direction and get him to follow you 3 Try to sound enthusiastic and a good person to be with and persevere Its really worth it and you feel great when he learns.

Hopefully you got your pup as a baby but that's ok if you didn't what I did and I have 7 pekingese I would take them out 6x a day without a leash yeah all 7 of course I wasn't close to the road either at first when they were babies it was 1x1 then as they got older around 4 months I did it as a group thing always always go outside with them NO MATTER HOW COLD IT IS and show them your there for them
use commands 1x1 outside, inside, good, pee-pee and lower yourself to their level your telling them up high and here their lower than you in height it will work but it has to be done CONSTANTLY...

You need to train your dog to come on recall. Try finding a good trainer in your area to take some classes with so that you can learn a few of the basic obedience commands to teach your dog.

Make sure your dog has good recall command before letting it off.My 4yr old girl has excellent recall but my 13month old dog doesn't so he stays on a retractable lead, while i start from scratch on recall with him.It can be dangerous letting your dog off and you having no control over it.So for now while you re-train him keep him on the lead, and be a responsible owner. If your not sure how to train him then enroll in a good training class.Good luck.

Crouch down as near to his height as you can put out your arms and call.
Failing this also try bribery with some small tasty pieces of dried liver.
Remember it must want to come to you.
