Most medicines, especially antibiotics, disrupt the normal flora of microbes that live in your gastrointestinal tract. These microbes help break down food and aid in normal digestion. Taking medicines can either kill or help these microbes flourish, sometimes leading to nausea, diarrhea, or other problems. These problems should subside shortly after you have stopped taking the medicine and the balance of microbes in the gut has regulated.

I attended a seminar on a medical procedure a few years ago. It was for a plastic surgery type thing and was put on for people with no medical background. The doctors talked for a while about listed side effects of procedures and medicines.

When they do clinical trials they establish a list of side effects. Anything that even one or two patients experience gets listed. Now think about a random group of a few hundred people. Odds are pretty good that at any given point some will have a head ache, some will be a bit nauseous, and a few will have mild diarrhea. Therefore these things get listed even if they had nothing to do with the medicine.

More sever symptoms always seem to be listed separated. I'd say always ask your doctor when taking something new. There are also help lines and web access to about every medical issue now.
