The need for Christians to stay awake becomes even more pressing as the next verse of Revelation comes closer to fulfillment: “And they [the expressions inspired by demons] gathered them [the earthly kings, or rulers] together to the place that is called in Hebrew Har–Magedon.” (Revelation 16:16) This name, more commonly rendered Armageddon, occurs only once in the Bible. But it has fired mankind’s imagination. World leaders have warned of a possible nuclear Armageddon. Armageddon has been linked also with the ancient city of Megiddo, the site of many decisive battles in Bible times, and some religious leaders have therefore speculated that the final war on earth will take place in that limited area. In this, they are far wide of the truth.

The book of Revelation has to do with God's plans for His creation in the end times. The events we read are a window into the progression of things that will take place. Obviously there is a lot of symbolic language that we don't understand. God wants it that way. Specifically that passage refers to the great city "Babylon", which is a symbol of fallen man's abilities and power as influenced by the demonic forces present in this world. We know from history that at one point the Babylonian empire was incredibly rich and ruled a vast area of the middle east. We also know the scripture says God brought it low because of their cruelty, arrogance and pride. For hundreds, maybe thousands of years, the city of Babylon was thought to be more myth than real, but archeology has proven it was a real place and also an enormous city. It is the same thing that will happen to earthly powers when God decides He's had enough and it's time to restore the earth to how He really wants it. You have to read this with the background thought that the God of pure love and pure justice desires that none perish but come to everlasting life through His Son Jesus for this to make sense. However even if you don't believe in Jesus, you must know that governments always say they want to serve the people (don't care if it's democratic, royalty, a republic, or communist) but they always wind up serving the rich, connected, and themselves...to hell with the people. Some have speculated the great Babylon of this age is New York City because the UN is here, every world power has their diplomates and embassies here, the NY Stock Exchange and other major financial movers and shakers are here, etc. That's why after 9/11 you had the right-wing fundamentalists like Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell saying this was God's judgement and the beginning of the end. Since God isn't bound by our thinking, we can't really know what specific city Babylon referes to, just that it will happen at some point in time.

You need 16:15 to go along with it. 16:15 is the Rapture.

Then; Armaggedon in 16:16 is the war, the armies of the Earth. I believe it is a place in Iran. Most Biblical places took place in Iran.

16:17 is the prophecy foretold, "It is done"

16:18 is GOD'S force warning us what we are doing is against HIM.

16:19 could actually mean what is going on today the 3 nations divide Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran part of the warning

16:20 still decifering it and believe it is just a mirage or possible the taking of stone to rebuild The Temple of God, better known as The Temple of Solomon.

I tried to keep this as simple as possible for most would not understand if I wrote it out to full complexity.

Since I specialize in Revelation. And, yes I am an ordained minister.

But, 16:21 God's vengenance and for not taking his warning.

Some understand Armageddon as the place of the final battle of history. One possible location would be in the Plain of Esdraelon (including Megiddo) between Mt. Carmel and the city of Jezreel. But others interpret the name as only symbolic of the final victory of God over evil.

The bowl judgments complete what the other judgments began. The second trumpet, for instance, killed one-third of the sea creatures (Rev.8:9) the sea's destruction is complete in the second bowl. Note also that the sixth bowl clears the way for the climactic Battle of Armageddon (Rev. 16:16) and the seventh literally levels the earth. Most intriguing to God, earth dwellers shake a fist in God's face and curse his name as these bowls are poured out(Rev. 16:9-11,21)

"And they {the expressions inspired by demons} gathered them {the earthly kings or rulers} together...Har-Magedon." Rev 16:16 Har-Magedon means "Mountain of Megiddo but in this case is not a literal place but a world situation in which all nations gather together in opposition to the true God. This is also the place where he will destroy them as foretold at Daniel 2:44.

It is the final battle before the 2nd coming of Christ. Just read the whole passage. The story picks up again beginning at the 11th verse of the 19th chapter when Christ come riding on a white horse. There are several passages in the Bible that give details to this battle.
