An atheist does not believe in the existence of God or a higher being. An agnostic is not a true atheist because he/she doubts the existence of god and believes there's no way of truly knowing if God exists. A realist believes that if you can't physically see or touch something it does not exist. They accept truth and not things based on faith or just having a feeling (emotion).

The atheist does not believe that any form of higher being runs the show and resists all attempts to change that opinion, the agnostic is waiting until all the evidence is in, and the realist lives his/her life free of such trauma and drama.
