I agree with you. So many people here think Muslim women are abused by their husbands, but in reality they have never seen how Muslim women ARE treated. Unfortunately they are so set in their ideas they won't believe the truth even from those of us that live it.
FYI- Recently someone has taken to cloning me. If their answers are anti-Islamic, they are not representing me and I apologize for their offense actions. Please be patient until Yahoo resolves this. If you are unsure which Terry G is real, check our profiles. Mine was NOT created recently. Thanks for understanding.

I know for a fact that saudi women have opportunities that we in the west do not believe they have (like the right to an education, work etc). The lavish lifestyle some, not all lead has nothing to do with whether there is oppression or not. Oppression of women is a world-wide phenomena and the middle east is not exempt from that. There is a double standard in saudi arabia and the region. I am an American muslim woman and I lived in the region so I know that first hand. It is a man's world, there is no doubt about it. The oppression of women in the middle east comes from long-standing, deep-rooted cultural ideas. It is slowly changing among the newer generations, but old ideas die hard. Saudi Arabia still has a long way to go.

Simple, any time a society or community has any type of segregation racial, gender or other wise, it's oppressive.
Women in Saudi Arabia can't drive or must have some type of escort when leaving their homes, what do you call that. You have the religious police running around punishing people, mainly women, who aren't following the rules.
You speak of the Saudi Women having maids, those maids are women, whose mother, sister or wife are those maids? Those maids aren't treated very well.
When you go into a restaurant in Saudi Arabia, you have a womens section and a mens section -- THIS IS OPPRESSIVE.
The Saudi religious police tried harassing some American women Marine GIs and learned a quick and painful lesson, American women aren't going to take their crap!
When the Saudi Prince came to America he tried to dictate that the Air Traffic controllers were all men -- THIS IS AMERICA we ALL are free here. If Saudis don't like it, then don't come here.
It seems that it's always the "Saudi Men" who think that life is great for a Saudi woman. The whole culture sickens me.
Saudi Arabia is an abomination to civility and it will be a great day when the U.S. of A leaves them to their own devices, the Saudis are not our friends.

I live in Saudi Arabia. And women here aren't anymore oppressed than they are elsewhere. They have their own culture and their own cultural values. And culture has nothing to do with Islam, it may be heavily influenced by Islam but it doesnt have anything to do with it. Frankly people are ignorant. There is no humanity left.
Its sickening to hear people say stupid stuff about your country. I mean puhleaz, GROW UP! Learn to accept people from different backgrounds and cultures, open your eyes. If you think Women were that opressed wouldn't they have already spoken out? For god's sake, they DO have a voice. Not everyone is dumb. A woman can send a personalized letter to the King here. If they felt oppressed they would've said something. And you may find this amusing but the King is actually trying to bring about change, but it's not getting a good reception. What the hell does that tell you?
Just fuckling live and let live.

Muhahaha Id laugh my head off at that remark
lol
Saudi arabia has one of the strongest tribal cultures in the world. They are very protective of their women and children and sons. And let me tell you tho, if theres any one ruling the house in Saudi..its the women. Because they can hold the men on the leash with no sex and the man wont be able to do anything about it.
The woman controls the home, the supermarket ..how the guests are treated..to even having their own jobs.
Granted the men still rule everything else. But its the women who control the men inside their own homes...not the other way around.
This has grown into a running joke recently..theres a program called Tash ma Tash and theyll make fun of the fact that men have to go to the supermarket and listen to their wives yell on the phone about what to buy. lol

The reply to this is dependent upon the way you view the hindrance. If you're a Practicing Muslim then your reply will likely be in favour of Women that they get fine in their rights in comparison to every other position on this planet considering the fact that Islam is such a lot practiced in Saudi Arabia. If you're no longer a Muslim then your reply will likely be in opposition to it. It is like an illustration of man or woman combating for liberation of his possess nation dominated by way of others ( a different nation). The fellow nationals will label this man or woman as Freedom Fighter, in which because the ruling persons will name him as terrorist. Therefore, a man or woman for a unmarried act or deed is labelled with 2 titles. Therefore, any non Muslim or Muslim leaving within the west might say that it's difficult for ladies in Saudi Arabia. Being a Muslim, and residing in Saudi Arabia for greater than 25 years, I might like to mention that, quite often all Women (without reference to her faith) has pleasant admire, more secure, and will get the fine rights in Saudi Arabia in comparison to every other facet of the sector, apart from black sheeps which each nation has.

Truth is that I have not been there. And I do think that NOW is a little out there. But they do have strong research and do know what they are talking about. So when they publish articles that say women in Saudi Arabia are oppressed, this catches my eye and forces me to do more research. Now most of the extra stuff I found was based on the NOW study, it did have collaboration. So I tend to think they are oppressed by the information that I have come across, not through my travel, but through reading.
