Actually that was started by King James. There are other color bibles, but the true King James Version (Which is incomplete) is black because he wanted to show the sorrow he felt for the cruelty Jesus went through and it was the only acceptable color due to the time period. You couldn't have a dirty bible

Well, the bible espouses a pretty dark message and contains some really gruesome imagery, so maybe that's why black is the popular choice.

It isn't. Some are white, some are red and you can get one in any color of the rainbow if you shop around. Black seems to be preferred by most people and I don't know why.

I have a blue and tan one, My daughter's is cream and pink. They come in all different colors and in many different languages also. The color of the Holy Bible doesn't matter, it is the contents that are important.

You can get them in other colors too, My bible is a dark blue, But I have also seen red & brown.

It is? Funny, I have a red one and a brown one at home. I've seen one in blue and pink and a very pretty turquise. So, they are not always black.

Not really. I sell Bibles and it comes in different colour. Just go to a Christian Bookshop and ask for one of your colour choice.

If you mean the Christian one, go look at some its a rainbow out there - what planet are you on?

They've figured out that "black" or other dark colors have a more authoritative look. If religions are good at anything, it's PR.
