It seriously depends on what position the baby is in. The main cause of u/s is to measure the baby's anatomy and make sure it is growing correctly. I did try to find out with my first but "she" was not cooperative. I've not tried to find out the sex of any of my other children. We like the surprise. I think your chances also depend on how likely the sonographer is to spend time looking if they can't tell right away. Some are down to business when others may be just as anxious as you to try and see. I wish you luck.

With my first we had the ultrasound at 24 weeks. So, we definately knew by then. This time we're having it at 20 weeks. My biggest tip would be to have a piece of hard candy before the ultrasound. Or, that flavored Vitamin Water. You want a LITTLE bit of sugar not a candy bar or ice cream just a bit. Just to make sure the baby is moving. Otherwise, the baby will be too active to not only determine gender but also get your measurements :))

You could even keep a piece of candy in your jeans pocket. If the baby isn't cooperating just use it then. I drank Vitamin Water with mine and we found out that day. I have my ultrasound in two weeks and can't wait!

The chances are very good. The only thing that may cause a problem is if your baby is in a position where you cannot see the genitals...but the ultrasound tech can try to move the baby into a better position.
I knew what all of my kids were by 20 weeks.
Good luck and Congrats!!!

At 20 weeks you should be able to see the baby's gender if the baby is positioned right. What helped me...... every time I ate ice chips, I would notice that my baby would move... so I thought I would try it when getting my Ultrasound. Well at first my baby wasn't in the right position.... so I aksed the tech if I could eat some ice to help the baby move to get a better look, she thought it was odd, but she said ok if you think it will work..... Well I ate a little ice, baby moved, not the best position but better, so the tech said hey, eat some more ice just a little more moving to go... I ate some more, and baby moved again....... what happened... Tech hollered....... "it's a girl"...... sure enough was...... LOL I still see the tech often, and she now keeps a cup of ice chips ready for each patient...... said it has worked with quite a many of patients that come in..... LOL Good Luck....... and enjoy your bundle of joy regardless of the gender!!!

Most likely. Also depends on the way the baby is positioned. Sometimes the genitalia is "hiding", or shadowed & the tech cannot tell the sex of the baby. The only way that is 100% is doing an amnio. Good luck!

I think your chances are good although at my first ultrasound at 18 weeks they told me I was having a boy....I went back at 32 weeks and they told me they were 85% sure I was having a girl. At 34 weeks I went to a perinatologist and they told me 100% it was definitely a girl. So I really didn't find out for sure until then but this little girl is very shy and not only were her legs crossed but her hands were covering as well. So your best chance to know what you're having is to have a good sonographer.
Good Luck! I hope you find out sooner than I did. ;o)

If you really want to know then ask at your ultrasound. I have 4 children and did not want to know the sex of my children,i have 2 of each and its lovely to be told when the baby is born what sex it is,this is of course my own opinion and if you really want to know then ask, good luck for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby whatever the sex.

As long as the baby is in position to show you their "parts", you should be able to find out. I found out my twins were girls at 19 weeks. I was 21 weeks with my first daughter and did not find out her gender at my u/s at 21 weeks. The cord was in the way and it was the only u/s that my insurance would cover. So she was a surprise.

You should be able to tell as long as the baby is in a position where they can "get the money shot". My brothers kids were shy and 2 of them wouldnt allow any angles that would give it away.
Normally you can tell by 16 weeks.
