I dont wana be to forward incase he isnt gay, but what other reason could i say to give him my mobile number(other than you wana meet for a drink etc) to make it easier for him if he is?

Just for kicks and giggles.. bump into him at the gym accidentally / on purpose and see how he responds. NOthing major, just a casual little too close in the locker-room kind of bump or stand a little too close when you are talking, etc. If he backs away.. he's not gay. Guys will take any opportunity to get closer.. if they are interested (gay or not). In my humble opinion.

First of all, what's the purpose of giving him your number? Obviously you expect him to just up and call you - and in the meantime, you will sit around (or carry your cell phone around, put it under your pillow at night, etc...) just waiting for it to ring. STOP. Start by making smalltalk at the gym. "How's it going?" Then you incrementally step it up until you have a good sense of where he is coming from. "What kind of workout routine do you follow?" See what equipment he uses the most - and ask for "pointers" about using the same equipment. Work up to "you wanna work out together?" If he's interested, the interaction will be mutual. If he's not, he'll more than likely just politely brush you off. Don't take it personally. Relationships have to start with a solid friendship. Of course, you could be like every other cad and walk up and ask him if he wants to go home and **** and take a chance of getting your jaw handed to you. It just depends on what you are really after - a relationship or just relations.
