Nope, you will have to change trains in Chicago. The western routes have tall "scenic cruiser" cars with top floor viewing areas. They can't fit through the tunnels from Penn Station under the Hudson River. The fare, according to amtracks web site, on April 5 is $154.00 to either Denver, Colo. or Los Angeles, Calif.

Yes, you can. Amtrak runs out of Penn, but it's pretty expensive and usually ridiculously long.

If you want to go out west, it is cheaper and faster to fly from LaGuardia than to take the train
