I used to work for VW, as a tech and a service advisor, so what i write below is true, although it is in my opinion.

Beetle soft top, although they are VW's and obviously hold the VW heritage they are far from perfect.
the new beetles in gerneral are a pig to work on, they are more expensive to service as VW state more time for things like pollen filters etc.
They are un reliable and constantly have minor faults. such as indicator faults, alarm faults and cutting out issues.

Driving wise, well, the dash itself is pretty big, sat there infront of you, its difficult to judge distances infront of you if your under about 5ft 4in.
Rear view for parking is terrible, as the wheel arches come out quite far and general judgement is made harder.

The dash board looks cheap and nasty, and they really dont drive well, they are under powered and noisey.

Just to show how much VW feel about this range, they have a different radio key to any other VW, and VW dont supply the keys to any tech, this means you may end up with scratches on your dashboard.

They also suffer from problems with the rear hood, where the rear sections lift up for the hood to move, these can seize up or just stop moving.

Another cost that goes up, any bulb on these vehicles to be fitted from VW, offically the charge is 30mins to replace a bulb, this is because the whole unit needs to come out to gain access. so thats £56 in labour alone for a bulb. now if you try doing it yourself and break the unit or clip, its not gonna be cheap...!

Basically my view of this vehicle is bad, bad, bad. If you like the VW range go for something else, mk 4 golfs are great, mk 5 are good, polo's are ok (get a diesel one)

Hope this helps

I give the Beetle soft top a 12!! This car is better than ordinary! I have a 2007 new beetle convertible and I absolutely love it!! Most soft top cars are so noisy when driving fast, the beetle is just as quiet at my hard top was!! The beetle is a very safe car, for a small car its roomy..you have to try it out to believe it. i love this car! I couldn't be happier with any other car! I will buy a beetle convertible as long as they will make them!!
AMAZING CARS!

I was going to say that it's the stupidest car ever, until I remembered the Nissan Micra Cabrio. I think there's a bit of a boy/girl thing going on here too. It's definately not a bloke's car, but it is a VW, so if you want one, why not? The only thing I don't like about the new Beetle is that you can't see its front or rear end from the seat, they're a nightmare to park!

I used to own "old style" beetles. I had 3 of them, one after the other. When I heard VW were going to manufacture the beetle again, I said I would put my name down for one.

That was before I actually saw the new beetle in the flesh. It is totally GAY GAY GAY. When do you ever see a guy driving one?

In the UK it is regarded as a "hairdresser's car", in the same league as the Toyota Rav4.

And the soft top convertible, is just to awful to contemplate. It's for EXHIBITIONINST gays.

If you mean the new one It does not shake like some convertibles, is well up on safety kit and has a really good hood. To drive it is well, ordinary. It is a bit cramped in the back and the boot is small. But thats down to the body shape and it was made for those who would just like a Beetle convertible!

I would rate the beetle soft top very high a 9. It is the mother of the porsche 911 soft top you know.

Some cars look great as convertibles and some just look awkward, to me the beetle and the PT Cruiser don't look good as drop tops.

When Volkswagen brought out the new vw beetle I think they were expecting it to sell like hot cakes. They are OK.. they look a bit gay so I would not buy one.

i did not rate them very highly until they started to come into my garage for servicing, i have now changed my mind, they are a very good car and not just for posing around the streets, they are very roomy in side and you could drive on the motorway all day with out getting tired as you would in most small car ( throw the stupid flower of the dash board), good car and will hold its money well

Great. A much snugger fit (when you do it right-and that is the trick) than on the English cars and many American cars.
