Mitzy has recently been split up from her brother as he became very messy around the house. Mitzy is moulting like mad and scratching. We have also noticed that there is a small bald spot on the top of her head. Also she came in from the garden and had a chunk of hair missing from her back and it was bleeding. I have since bathed this with salt water. Do you think it could be stress and that I need to get her some flea drops? I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

She may be stressed. Not unlike people who get hives, cats can get skin irritations, and they will rub themselves bald to get some itch relief. Perhaps a trip to the vet is in order, to rule out parasites, and possibly prescribe some type of cortisone.

I like wine_snobs answer, I have had lots of cats over the years, and the bald spot and mad scratching sounds like a parasite of some sort, possibly fleas. Here where it is 7* outside, fleas aren't the issue, there aren't any now, but don't know where you live. It wouldn't cost that much to take your cat to the vet. Maybe 35 dollars (US currency) maybe less for just a look-see. Then you'll really know for sure...but the missing hair does sound like a fight, or mating, especially if there are any male cats in your area at night.

It could definitely be stress - most things are based on stress!

It would be a good idea to get the flea treatment as soon as possible too - because it can be costly if your cat gets an infection through scratching so much.

She might also have caught her fur on something (especially if she has a habit of going in garden sheds)

I hope she feels better soon.

poor mitzy - I think she is missing her brother a lot. She sounds very stressed. Would be worth asking at the vets for some advice and making sure she feels extra special with cuddles and spoiling foods - fresh chicken or tuna fish etc

First I would check to see if there was any PESTICIDE used in the garden. 2nd she is definitely under stress and upset for that her brother is now gone and you might end up seeing other abnormal behavior from the little one hopefuuly not. 3rd DO NOT PUT FLEA MED on until you check with your vet. 4th he may have lice believe it or not I didn't believe that animals could get lice until one day I was at my vet and this lady had a cat that was infested with the lice.(louse). OR the reson for her moulting could be that she might have (mange) ask your vet

Yea I would take him to the vet as soon as possible. It could be that if he did get outside he could of gotten into a cat fight. My cat got a bbald spot on her head and it turned into a huge knot above her eye and when i finally took her to the vet i found out it was a brown lacuse spider bite. She couls aslo just have allergies or something. The best thing for you to do is take her the vet.Good Luck!

It sounds like some kind of skin disorder, probably brought on through stress, but you can get a few things at the vet to help her out, some powder and lotions etc for her skin to stop her losing hair and to alleviate the itching. Hope they can help!

Sounds to me like you need to get Mitzy to the Vet.
There could be several things going wrong with her.
Since you allow her to be outside, she could have gotten into something that may be making her sick.
Good Luck.

My mums cat was doing the same thing, They found out he was allergic to tuna, ask the vet for an allergy test to rule out any problems with her diets. Good luck

sounds like a skin complaint or stress. Go to the vet and get it checked out.
