You are obviously a metric child. Don't think it's necessary for you to go back to school at all. 16 ounces to a Pound, so your 8 ounces is half a pound. So in answer to your question, no 1lb is not the same as 8 ounces.

teaspoons
tablespoons = 3 teaspoons
fluid ounces = 2 tablespoons=6 teaspoons
cups = 8 fluid ounces = 16 tablespoons
pints = 2 cups = 16 fluid ounces
quarts = 2 pints, 4 cups
gallons = 4 quarts, 8 pints, 16 cups
Usually 16 ounces = a pound. When you start measuring in cups, it really depends on what you are measuring. 2 cups of butter is a pound, while a pound of cheese can be anywhere from 4-5 1/2 cups.

There are 16 ounces to a pound as a weight measurement. A lot of the cooking measures are volume measurements and have nothing to do with the weight - you have to know the difference.

16 ounces (oz) to the pound (lb). So 8 is, naturally, half (1/2 lb).
225grams(g) is equivalent to 8oz. but only work with imperial(lbs, oz) or metric(kg, g). Don't mix the two.
