One of the questions which puzzled the ancient Arabs was, "Where did the sun go when night time came?" The Qur'an gave them Allah's answer.
"He [i.e. Zul-qarnain] followed, until he reached the setting of the sun. He found it set in a spring of murky water."
(Surah XVIII ( Kahf) vs. 85-86)
According to this surah, the sun went down into and under the murky waters of a pond. When it was completely covered by the water, darkness fell upon the earth.
To the early Muslims, this surah gave the divine answer as to why darkness fell when the sun set in the West. They assumed that the sun, like the moon, was the size perceived by the human eye, about the size of a basketball. Darkness came when with a mighty hissing roar it went down under the dark waters of a pond.
So allah thinks it sets in a pond of murky water, is that not a stupid answer?

That's not the only error. Like the bible, the koran is riddled with mistakes, lies and contradictions.
Mythology is like that. It's what happens when you start talking to imaginary sky-pixies...

Wow you are just proving how ignorant you are about the Quran and its suar. THe sura you are quoting and the verses you refer to start in aya 83 which says that Prophet Moses is giving news and telling some of stories about "thu el qarnain" to the atheists. The part about the sun mentions that he was given plenty of science and wisdom by God and that he used it to follow the sun to the West where he found it using his own eyes going down..." This is a whole story about thu el qarnain and has nothing to do with Allah who knows everything and we humans up to this millenium are still ignorant about just like you are ignorant about the quran. People like you will wish to find errors in the quran but till the end of time, they will continue being proven wrong whether they like it or not.

Yeah yeah, we've all answered this before and you still don't get it. HE saw the sun setting, i.e. Zulqarnain saw it not Allah made the sun set into murky water. If you bothered to read the Quran you'll see how Allah reveals verses with scientific relevance.
Robert Morrey claims what he does without little or no evidence at all.

Muslims basic weapon is to hide their errors, faults, and sins and point out some thing agains the opponent while they really dont understand anything about what they are pointing out.
they do this for centuries generation after generation. they are happy in their self praisings talking joyfully about their own sides and blamming some one else of their mistakes.
they are well aware that Quran was written by a single man and it contains the ideas, wishes, thirst, resentment and vengeance of that single man where as Bible was written by the Inspiration and the instruction of God by 40 selfless men who never claimed any credit of their writtings.....
since they cannot tolerate that it praises Jews and Isrealits they simply go with the book that supports their people.
they will one day see the result of what they believed.

Neither the koran nor the bible are literal, they are symbolic and extremely clever descriptions of the complex human psyche.
This description of the setting sun has some significance for your own existence, but only you can find that significance.
Don't go looking outside for it, it is deep within your heart.
I hope it doesn't offend you to think of or feel your heart.
