I have had depression for a long time (10 years since i was diagnoised). I am starting to realise that its something i will always have to fight. The thing is that i am scared my therapist will get annoyed with me for not getting better. Do you think that is possible?

{{{{ U }}}} I'm 59 years old...and treated for 'clinical' depression since I was 20. I was FIFTY years old when I was PROPERLY diagnosed as BIPOLAR...and given the proper medication. If your therapist is not a Psychiatrist...see a shrink NOW to ask about your SPECIFIC diagnosis. Is there a CURE? NOT. But you and your Shrink can MANAGE your body chemistry to give you a shot at being the REAL you! In the meantime... make a list of your assets. Take time to appreciate the GOOD things in your life. Having suicidal thoughts is no SHAME or Blame. It's just one of the realities of depression. You did not ASK to be depressed. You didn't DO anything wrong. You CAN take credit for WANTING to feel, look and BE better. Do something nice for someone else today...and don't tell anybody! That's a good start to mental and bodily health. Best wishes! Gina C. P.S. If your therapist gets annoyed LOL they'd best find another line of business. (%

If you have been depressed for 10 years and you are still depressed then maybe you might want to consider finding a new
therapist. Have you discussed all the possibilities of what is depressing you? Could your job be one of those reasons?
A relationship that isn't going anywhere, the town you live in?
Could you be suffering from Chronic Depression? If you are
not involved with your own healing then you won't feel like you are getting better. Get involved with something rewarding.
Volunteer your time. The gratitude you'll receive can be very
uplifting.

Have you had the same therapist for the entire ten years? I would suggest even if you haven't, then get a new therapist...obviously what this guy is doing isn't working and you need a shakeup in your life. Find a new therapist and see what happens. It may not be THE answer, but it is an answer that could really pay dividends.

If you have a good therapist, no, he or she will not be annoyed with you for not getting better. You are there to get better and a good therapist will help you to get there, no matter how long it takes. They may try different discussion techniques and possibly you will also need to see a psychiatrist for meds to help you.

I have had depression and anxiety for 10 years also, and though it has taken me a while, I have finally found a really good therapist, who is helping me a great deal.

So hang in there and best wishes to you.

Only YOU can cure YOUR depression ... even drugs can provide only temporary relief...
even in ur question i can see that you are scared... So you lack self confidence....

1. do things that you enjoy ...
2. eat what you love .. and lots of them ...
3. Follow a few hobbies... dont ever give yourselves free time where you can brood about urself...
4. find an exercise partner if possible and work out everyday ... this will improve your confidence and mood....
5. If you make exercising a habit then you will tend to work out more when you are feeling bad and this will make you tired enough not to think too much ;)

Just follow these simple routines and stay around with friends forget about ur therapist.... u will get better with time ...

If your therapist gets annoyed with you for not getting better than find a new therapist.Depression is a common illness theses days and you are not alone. Most people will never recover from depression and will have to have treatment for the rest of their lives. Its just a part of your life that you will have to accept.Just think of it as someone who has diabetes ,they have to have treatment for the rest of their lives and if their doctor gets annoyed because they wont get better then I'm sure they would find a new doctor. Its their job to look after you!. Just take it easy and try not to worry about it I'm sure he/she won't be annoyed.

I too was depressed for 7 years.

Go now and get your Thyroid tested promptly. One month on thyroid medications and my depression was gone. I couldn't believe it. I had had lot of cause from tragedy in my family. But it just wouldn't go away. For your mental health go now.

Hypothyroidism causes depression. I do not know if you are female but it could happen in males to. Low hormones. Google for symptoms.

Good Luck and Best Wishes to a Bright future.
Cold hands and feet at one of the symptoms, low body temperature in the morning. There are more.

I think you should look for another therapist. Perhaps one who specializes in cognitive therapy. If you are taking medications, you may need to have them evaluated and switch to a med that is more effective.
Good luck!

you worry too much. You're the one sick here. Your therapist has no business being angry with you as you also pay for his fruitless therapies. Always have hope that you will be well again. Have confidence with yourself. Good Luck and God Bless!!!
