First thing you should try is make sure at least 1 hour before bedtime, don't give him anything to drink and make him pee before getting into bed-be diligent!! That's a start, if you don't see an improvement within a week, take him/her to the doctor please.
Many children have immature bladders, and other actual physical
problems with the bladder that they have no control over. And be encouraging-don't scold him/her this may only make it worse,
your little one only wants to make you happy, they don't want to get yelled at !! Good Luck.

Sometimes children wet the bed in response to something they are stressed or fearful about. It is worth it to gently and lovingly investigate this to see if there is anything you can do to alleviate your childs concerns.
However some children just have immature bladders and all the strategies in the world are not going to fix it. Your child needs to be treated with kindness and understanding. Never ever tell the child off for something they can't help and may be feeling embarrassed about.
My two eldest boys wet the bed till they were about nine. I was so relaxed about it I don't think they even thought it was a problem. I didn't withold water from them before bed, would you like to be denied a drink if you were thirsty? It won't stop bedwetting anyway. If they were wet in the night my husband and I would change them and their sheets so they could sleep comfortably. Eventually they just grew out of it without any sense of embarrasment or guilt. It just went away of it's own accord. Sometimes the problem goes on so long it interferes socially, ie sleepovers etc or some teenagers still have the problem and get very self conscious. There are things that doctor can give to "dry them up" in the case of a school camp, but it is only temporary. Also there are alarm systems that wake the child up if they start to wee.
Seek a solution but do it without fuss or fear.

It is not usually as simple as that. Easiest would be to ensure that he uses the toilet each night before going to bed.

"If your child wets the bed after having been dry at night in the past, your pediatrician should do an evaluation. The bed-wetting may be a sign that stress or a disease is causing the problem. " that is taken off a site for doctors and patients and can be read at
http://www.medem.com/MedLB/article_detaillb.cfm?article_ID=ZZZ30FMNH4C&sub_cat=109
and another site:
http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/standard/transform.jsp?requestURI=/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/bed-wetting.jsp

Both will say that this is subconcious and normally with a child your boy's age is a signal that something is bothering him. Scoldings and punishment for the bed wetting will only make it worse.

Have him evaluated and good luck

Get him up a few times during the night to use the bathroom. Don't give him anything to drink after 8pm either. Yes you will have to do without sleep a couple of nights but this is a serious and embarassing problem for your child.
Don't ridicule your child for wetting his/her bed either. It's not their fault. They just have to be trained to wake up in the night to go potty.

our daughter is only 5, but what we have been doing is making sure she goes to the bathroom right before bed(7:00 sharp most nights) then we get her up when we go to bed(normally about 10:30)don't even really wake her up, she practiclly sleep walks to the toilet, if she needs help getting "started" just run the tap for a few seconds, this results in a dry night!

Hope it helps!

when my seven yr old was still wetting the bed i took him to the doctor. there are alarms you can get that has a moisture sensor and when is gets wets it makes a loud beeping sound to wake them up. if that doesn't work there are prescriptions that you can get. some times its a medical problem.
