Yes. It will change the map as low lying areas get flooded over by rising seas. It will also cause wars as people flee newly desertified land and competition for resources increases. I think for example that we'll see some more genocides in Africa this century.

Yes, Climate change Will shape the earth as it has been doing for millions of years. How it Will remains to be seen. The sun has gone through a large amount of solar activity recently which have given us higher than normal temperatures in some regions. That coupled with the eruption of several volcanoes, has made for some interesting weather patterns. However the solar activity has subsided and hopefully we wont have any major eruptions for sometime, so this trend of a little more normal weather will continue. If you look at this winter it has been going back to being way too cold in most places again. But I'm sure the algore followers will be able to explain how that's caused by man made global warming. Or is it global cooling, such as the in the 70s?

I echo many of the comments given by Bob, above. Change is happening and for us the timescale of change will make it seem like this are happening in slow motion. But that may not be the case for everything that happens. I've been looking at this from a scientific persepctive then as a personal and moral dilema for the last 20 years. Changes have happened on a large scale over that timeframe and archaelogical evidence indicates that climate change can be swift and devastating for cultures unable or unwilling to change their ways and that this change can be swift - of the order of 20 years in some instances.

I recon base on the best evidence I've accumulated that we 25 years to sort this out or .....watch out.

Don't be fooled into thinking that its going to be easy to watch events unfolding. Things are going to get very difficult. Indonesia is experiencing heavy flooding in the news right now - expect lots more of that and drought and famine and a population displacement and probably a lot of war, much more than now (for climatic reasons - not dogma.)

There are a vast amount of end results in the global warming scenario game - but I'm a doom sayer - ask Bob. I think that we've cooked our goose right now. I can't see global political cooperation manifesting itself nor the development and application of green energy and transport technology, happening in time to stop us, as a minimum, making some serious changes occur to climate systems - eg. cessation of the theromhaline transportation system - the Gulf Stream, to you and me.

Worst, worst case is that we turn planet earth into Venus 2. In other words we and all life including Earth Herself would die (even plate techtonics could be halted).

However, despondency has not prevented me from making significant changes in my lifestyle to assist in the effort that We (all of us) need to make to stand any chance of allowing our children a world fit for human habitation. I might be wrong - hey its happened before (and fingers crossed it'll be that way again).

There are plenty of na-sayers on this site who'll have you believe that Global Warming is some huge government conspiracy to get more tax dollars out of you. These guy's are misguided at best and should be ignored - they have nothing of substance to contribute on the debate.

Finally , and returning to the question: One thing I don't expect is that what we have now will remain - the natural world of today will be deeply empoverished in the world of tomorrow.

If you want to make a difference and prove me wrong then tell all your family and friends to go Green and lead by example.

Good luck

This is not going to be like a Hollywood disaster movie. Very gradually coastal cities will start to flood, first in storms and then just all the time. Changes in temperature and precipitation patterns will severely damage agriculture. Rich countries will be able to cope, but it will cost them huge sums of money and lower their standard of living. In poor countries people will die of starvation.

It's a disaster in very slow motion. The worst disaster in human history. It will take another 20-50 years for the worst effects to appear, but if we are going to reduce those, we need to start now.

To the people who say "solar variation" or "volcanoes". It's not that. The IPCC report analyzed those things and many others. That analysis is not their opinion, it's straightforward calculations based on peer reviewed data. And they say the major problem is us. The IPCC report has huge amounts of data and has received the most peer review of any scientific document in history. It's a unanimous report of hundreds of scientists from countries all around the world, from countries with very different political concerns. Science does not get any more solid than this.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."

Russell E. Train, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford

"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, California

"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."

Senator John McCain, R-Arizona

"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."

President George Bush

If the planet continues to warm up, and the Ice caps melt the sea level will rise and the land mass will be in retreat. So our earth will look a very different place.
