Do you mean right?
Is it right? No. But that is THEIR law. It is to stop over population. Sometimes that is what you have to do.

I think it's a very responsible way of controlling population and, in effect, ensuring a better future for the citizens.
I only wish more countries would implement this policy. I am disgusted by the people who seem to make giving birth their "profession." Notice I did not say "child-rearing" because once they have these poor little babies, they fail to take any responsibility for them.
Not to mention all the children placed for adoption around the world. How can one justify "popping out a litter" when there are so many children in need of families???
I understand the emotional desire to bear a biological child. I have two children. Yes, TWO! I am guilty of overpopulating the planet based on emotional decision making. But I STOPPED! The thing people always ask me when they find out that I am remarried is if my husband will I have children of "our own." The answer is "We already do." Even though they are not his biological children, they are still his. We realize that we do not NEED another child in our family. Nor do we need to add another person to the planet.
We are already consuming our resources at an alarming rate. Our governments pay out obscene amounts to fund welfare programs, child care services, public school programs, etc. If there were fewer people, there would definitely be "more to go around" and maybe, just maybe, the world would be a better place.

I don't know about right... the thing is it is coming back around to bite them in the butt. Families have been for years and still are preforming gender specific ultrasounds so they can have boys. They don't want girls. So when they do an ultrasound they find the woman is carrying a girl, they abort. It has thrown off the balance of girl/boy ratio born to about 100/113. In other words, there are 13 more boys born per 100 than girls. In trying to keep the population under control, it has backlashed in a big way. This has been happening for about 20 years or so, and the number of marriageable girls has drastically dropped. Women have been so traditionally looked down upon in China and Asia all together that this cannot help but to raise the value of women. Anything that is scarce is valuable. It has also contributed to a giant raise in prostitution..believe it or not.
So now China also has AIDS problems. Just what they needed.

It is harsh, but what were they going to do? Their population was getting out of control. Some day we might have to face the same problem. I hope not. But facts are facts. The world population grows faster than the growth of food production. One day this is going to create a problem for the US as it already was in China.

The one thing they do do wrong in China is have abortions if the child is a female. Or allowing a second child if the first child is a girl. That's not right. The country will have too many boys...and then who are they going to marry or have a relationship with later in life?

With the over-crowding and over-population they had to take drastic measures to try to bring the population under control.

i'm hong kong born chinese, and in hong kong we can have as many kids as you like. in china, its not forbidden to have a second child. china is just encouraging couples to have 1 child because it is already over-populated. =)
