never really been medicated except for zoloft for two weeks, but that gave me heartburn It also showed me where I would normally fly off the handle and I learned to avoid it for a bit but the HEARTBURN ugh. I'm actually quite proud I've been at the same job for over a year now, ( w/o meds) that takes effort. I don't get deep lows but when I'm on a high I talk a million miles a minute stay up all night start a lot of projects and then don't finish start something else etc and I can get into huge screaming fits at my boyfriend, little things tick me off. andf I mean little things like an alarmclock going off and he won't turn it off right away.

I am Bipolar...the only thing I would be able to do without my medicine is crawl in a hole. Alone. With no money. That way I couldn't piss off anyone, yell at anyone, or spend my/their money.

i would try a new medicine even though you said that zoloft didnt work right with you. But, it could possibly be that Zoloft is not used for bipolar disorder. It is used for Depression, Anxiety and OCD. I take Trileptal for my Bipolar and Zoloft for my Anxiety and OCD.

As far as a non pharmeceutical strategy, It sounds wierd, but i used to pre-ocupy my self with alot of things. Like, i color. My mom has bipolar and she does cross-word puzzles alot. I also like to clean to keep my mind off of things when im feeling low. I also go to see a therapist. Have you tried that yet?

I know someone who has bi-polar disorder and almost killed himself in a manic episode while taking his meds. After that he decided to try herbal remedies which have done wonders. He drinks a lot of different herbal teas, and chews on a bunch of different kinds of roots said to keep you level and he seems fine. Stay away from the boos though. I can tell when he has been drinking cuz he is all over the map.

Having had a Bi Polar mother for over 50 years I only wish she'd stayed on the tablets.
