Although I am not a doctor I suspect the answer is "yes". People simply died without anyone really knowing what was wrong with them. Children were often described as "sickly" and who knows what was wrong with them. Children with what we now call ADHD were simply known as "backward" or "disruptive"

Adhd/Add have been around for at least 100 years under different names including "Minimal Brain Dysfunction". ADHD was just considered easier on the parents. ( It doesn't sound as scary does it) As for nut allergies, I believe these things did exist and didn't get the media coverage or weren't recognised for what they were.
I know a lot of parents did not take there children to paeds for learning disorders because public opinion was that everything was the parents fault (Just ask Willy Wonka's Oompa Loompas.)
We have a lot more additives in our foods now and more pollutants in the air, and no-one really knows what the long term (generational) affect this will have on us.

we have always had ADHD etc.. I for one know I probably had it myself. Couldn't sit still, concentrate, etc. Just back when I was in school, I was tested & placed in Advanced classes, and any child that acted up or disrupted got a whack with a paddle. They didn't have terms for it, just bad behavior. I knew a girl growing up that was allergic to peanuts, milk, bees, etc. So yes all these things existed, just not as much attention and probably a bunch of doctors didn't even know what things were.
