He needs to be alone for a while to concentrate on certain things. If he says to solve a problem he is facing, then it means he needs to be alone for sometime to solve the problem on his own.

Strange, though! Unless, he feels that his girlfriend cannot help him solve the problem!

It could mean he wants time on his own to work out a problem he doesn't want her to be involved in. It could be that the problem is he is trying to figure out how to end the relationship. Either way, she needs to listen and give him that space. If she doesn't, he might just push her away.

the second responder above sounds a little young. The guy probably really does need some space, especially if it is a personal issue he needs to get thru. "try and only care a little"? You don't play games with people who are having problems! you support them. sometimes being 'there' for somebody is not being there if that's what they want or if that helps them deal better.

Sounds like his problem is that he's no longer interested in being with her and he wants her to go away without actually letting her go (in other words, stringing her along) so he can decide what he really wants. She should give him space and try to move on. If he wants her back, he can go looking for her.

He is either craving attention from her. Trying to get her all worked up.

or

Really wants space. Maybe he needs his alone time. Some girls are clingy and want to be with their man 24/7. Guys aren't like that generally. They do need their space to be guys. You know..

Good luck to your friend..

guys dont say that unless if there mean back off or i wanna breck up with you but in a nice way so they wont feel guitly about it ,, so she should tell him that its good idea because she needs space too and he should not call till she does ,, and wait for a week before she does no matter how bad she wants to call and when she does after a week she should act like she missed him only little and she been too busy

What it means is back off. Quit expecting him to spend every free minute with the girl. Stop calling him and asking him what he is doing.

If and when he is ready for the relationship to continue, he'll call.
