Why the hell did you not get them done whilst in the army..You would not have to worry, but then being ex army myself i woud not go and see an army dentist.......I think they train in the torture zone........You could see a dentist, if you can get one, and ask him..They can be had but it will take a while as there are loads of people on the waiting list... Good luck matey....

Well your first stop is to visit your dentist and explain to them how extremely self conscious you are of your teeth. If they feel that it affects your psychological health then it is possible for them to refer you (usually a dental hospital) for treatment on the NHS. However you have to remember it is extremely difficult to get them on the NHS as an adult. Because of the cutbacks in many areas of the NHS they tend to do orthodontic treatment on adults for those with the most severe of cases. That is, cases whereby people's oral hygiene is hugely compromised as a result of crooked teeth. Even if you do get selected to have treatment on the NHS based on the grounds that it affects you psychologically or your teeth are extremely crooked or you have an extreme overjet, etc expect at least a wait of 3 years on the NHS before treatment commences!

I know because I too tried getting braces on the NHS and was told my case was not severe enough for the NHS to treat me despite recommendations (from my doctor) that my teeth are having a huge effect on my self esteem and self confidence. I am now going private, because I ahve no choice. Going private is not all bad, in terms of cost anyway. You pay over the course of the treatment, and some orthodontists can even arrange interest-free loans to assist you in paying for the treatment over a longer period of time. Good luck!!

I had braces 4 years ago, it was done on the NHS since I am under 18 but since last year they have started to charge £2000 for them

I'm sorry to say that if you over 16 in the UK, you will NOT get any brace treatment on the NHS. They have cut down on the amount of orthodontic treatment they will do, even children have to meet very strict criteria, to qualify for ortho treatment on the NHS.

Go and see ur dentist and see what they say. If they agree they'll make an appointment at the dental orthodontist to see what they think. Then after that they make an appointment at the dental hospital but it takes time before it can proceed

I understand that when in the army there are some restrictions on not being able to have braces.
I think if you go to your dentist and explain why they have not been done, he/she may refer you. You may have to pay towards them though because im assuming you are over 18......
