It depends on which state... many states have laws stating that you can't get tattooed at under 18, even WITH parental consent... it's best to wait, to come up with a good, meaningful design, and to find an artist who isn't just going to pull a piece of flash off the wall and slap some ink in your skin. If a studio doesn't ask for your ID (like many of these people are saying), AVOID it... if they aren't following the law, what else aren't they following? The last thing you need is to get a disease from this (even though the chance is very small). Make sure they autoclave everything and use fresh needles.

This will most likely be the most meaningful tattoo you ever get. Please don't rush into it.

(In some states, you can get tattooed under 18 if you're legally emancipated. Some parlors won't try this, though, because they could end up with an "assualt on a minor" charge that carries the possibility of serious jail time. There are scams associated with underage tattooing, such as can be read at http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Fake_Client_Con and some artists don't want to bother with the risk.)

Hey great ? I am a tattoo artist and the asnwer to your question is as follows ...
1 it depends on the tattoo artist some tattooist will not tat anyone under 18 no matter what the age limit is.
2 it depends on the state you live in simply call the local police dept and ask them or look online in a serach engine.
The general rule of thumb most states allows parental consent at 16 with valid photo ID ...
Some states like Oklahoma require you to be 18.

Hope that helps

A lot of the *shady* ones will give you one, but you need parental consent in my state, (Va) to get one. If your Mom wants too she can press charges against the parlor where the Artist does his work. There is a great chance of infection if the place is not sterile. If your Mom does not mind, she will sign for you to get one, no problem. The ones who are *clean and trusted* take the *needles* out of the Conclave and open them in FRONT of you. Also think long and hard WHERE you want this Tattoo as it is perment unless you want laser surgey to remove it, and then you are going to have a scar, but that is no problem since it is your Dads name. I have all four of my Grandchildren on my chest and my Daughter, (the picture and the names of all of them ) on my wrist along with many, many, many, others. I also have some on the calves of my legs.

First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. Tattoos of remembrance are always a personal and special thing.

To answer your question, legal age is 18 but, with parental consent anyone under the age of 18 can.

Honestly I don't see anything wrong w/it. To each their own & I know there are going to be some against it. I don't think it should be anything large tho & shouldn't be in a place where he'll regret it when he gets older. I would say to get it where it would be covered by short sleeves. You don't know what kind of a career he's going to choose when he gets older & you wouldn't want that to stand in the way of his profession. Also, one thing I would note to him, regardless of how much he loves a girl, NEVER get a name tattooed on him. No one but a relative if it's to be a name. These are things that could be regreted at times in ones life, & I am very strong on this & know it to be fact!!!

Well, all depends on the tattoo place. A lot of them will not ask for ID because they'd rather not know if you're underage. I got my first two tattoos at 16. Some places will allow parental consent, especially if you take your parent with you, rather than a note from your parent, but legally speaking, you can't get one until 18. That said, I managed it, so you can only try.

You can if a parent or guardian sign a waiver to allow you a tattoo, but an over-18 friend cannot. Our condolences about your father. Its a nice gesture on your part.

It all depends on where you live and the parlor. Give them a call if you get mixed answers on Yahoo. I think your tattoo is a great idea by the way. A tattoo with a purpose. Good luck.

You usually have to be 18 unless you have partental consent. Or there is another way. If you have a legal gaurdian at this time then you are able to have them sign.

It really depends where you live, Australia you have to have written permission from your parents and you are above the age of 16.
