thats easily enough time. I sent off for mine a few months ago and had received it within a few days. I think they usually tell you to allow 1 month before your travel date. June is ages away!!!

The users who said that it takes 2-3 weeks are correct. Also, as someone pointed out, there is an expediting service where you can pay extra to have it processed in 2 or 3 days and then overnighted to you. If you live in or near DC, you can also go to the Passport Office in DC (1111 19th Street, N.W. First Floor, Sidewalk Level Washington, DC 20036) and apply in person.
One thing to keep in mind is that there are some countries that care how new your passport is. Generally, these countries don't like passports that are within 6 months of issue or expiring. Spain is not one of these countries, but the sooner you get the passport, the better.

At peak time in summer, it has been known for the passport office to take 6 weeks but that has generally been the worst it gets. Someone gave an answer on Yahoo answers a couple of weeks saying that the passport ofice recently turned his passport round in a week. You shouldn't have any problems and will get your passport back well before June.

Think some of the above answers are a bit out of date!
Yes, until recently passports came back quite quickly. However because of the spate of "identity fraud" going on by criminals, trying to use such methods as those outlined in Day of the Jackel to get a passport in somebody else's name, the Passport Office civil servants have been ordered to substantially tighten up on their vetting and verification of applicants. In particular they will require good proof of bona fide residence at whatever address you give them and will need to check out your signatory as being genuine.
In addition, the method of delivering your passport has also been recently changed. It does not now come through the ordinary post, but it will be delivered either to your home or workplace by a special courier service, who will need to substantiate you are indeed the person who has applied and will not be able to give you a time of delivery just the date.
So nowadays it can take much longer and be far more frustrating than it used to, perhaps well ovr a month or two, particularly if you have changed your address and/or name and you can not easily verify where you now live equates to the name and address on your original birth certificate. The bottom line is
start applying early.

Passports usually takes 6-8 weeks to get in but you can pay extra (it might be $60, I'm not exactly sure) to have it expedited which should take about 2 weeks. Call your post office and ask them for exact details. If you go and get it now you should have it back way before June. I just wouldn't go any later March.
Have a great trip =o)
