Well -- yes it is inappropriate. And you don't have to tell her. Simply say that this is personal information that you prefer not revealing. Or tell her that you earn "more than I expected but less than I deserve" or something equally evasive.

hey i would snap if my mother in law asked me that.
its really non of her bussiness to ask.
as long as you and your hunny are well off and making it through, then she has no right to ask, expecally if she belittles you.
my fiances mom and his family are money hungry monkeys and i stear clear from them.
his dads side though is really awesome, and they arent so judgemental.
people who base there life on greediness are not worth the air your about to breathe, and not worth you space.
next time when this acures, just tell her
'' what bussiness of your is this, why are you so concernd, we are making it through, we are well off and we are happy, so just stay out of it''.
thats what i would do but im very bold, and blunt that way, sooo.
next time she asks you how much you made that week just say hummmm how mush do you want 100, 150 dollars, if your broke i can help you out.
see what she does.
it worked for me, my fiances mom dont bother with me anymore coz i played her game back at her... i have no time for childern of such age lol
good luck
and dont feel shy to voice your opinion ok hun, thats the only way she will leave your personal life alone

It depends on the way she asked...did you feel offended? Honestly, you do marry the family as well. You married her son, you're family, it's just a question. She didn't ask if you had herpes! If you aren't comfortable discussing it with her very politely tell her so. Eventually she'll get over it.

It looks a bit out of the way but may be she is curious. Study the body language that is the way she moves with you, her gestures, her eye contact etc, etc and this will give you many answers which she does not say to you.

Yes....pretty much. If you were a guy it might be more acceptable because she could be forgiven for making sure you can provide for her daughter. As it is, it's not really any of her business. What does your husband think?

Probably so, but it seems to be pretty normal. Does she tell you how much she makes?
