Moderation and extremism are either ends of a spectrum of religious belief which is essentially political. Fundamentalism describes an attitutude to the interpretation of scriptures, the opposite of which is non literalism.
For example, nearly all Muslims are fundamentalist, but most are not extremist.
While the two dimensions are sometimes related, they are not equivalent.

No, they are the core of the faith I practice. I think without moderation there is zealous foaming at the mouth. The moderates serve a purpose or they wouldn't exist, to me they are the SOUL of the religion.

I think it is the fundamentalists who are 'failed'.
When you find god, you find peace, but to find god you must come to terms with all of your wounds.
Fundamentalists, I suspect, are those who are so deeply wounded that they cannot face their pain, and so project it out onto the world, finding 'causes' to fight for.
These are the people most in need of our love.

I guess so!
That explains me then!
Although can you blame me? I'm Catholic so, being a zealot means going to seminary, which means becoming a priest and I just love sex with women and meat on fridays way too much!
