My mates daughter shakes and the kids at school take the micky out of her. My mate doesn't want to take her to the doctors because she doesn't want to make an issue of it and she doesn't want her daughter to take any medicine for nerves etc. her daighter is 10 now but has been like this for about 6 years. We notice it when she is doing detailed colouring-in or trying to write really neatly.

We can't tell if it happens when she's nervous or anxious or if it's a medical condition.

Has anyone else come across this and if so, what was wrong with the kid? Did they grow out of it or did they need to see a doctor?

If she is being given grief by her classmates, it's ALREADY an issue. I would definitely get her to a doctor, to check for any potential neurological problems. Better to be told it's nothing serious than to neglect something that IS.

If the child has been shaking for 6 years, it isn't going to go away on its own.

It may be just the way she is when concentrating - but you aren't going to know unless you take her to the GP.

Tell your friend to over come her own difficulties and allow her daughter to be treated if necessary.

Obviously the worry of the situation is gettting to her - so bite the bullet and be brave and take her!

If it was anything very serious, she would have worsening symptoms.

Plus I'm sure that her teacher would have raised some concerns.

this little girl needs to be seen by a doctor asap, I realise that her mum maybe scared as to whats wrong but burrying her head in the sand will not help, this problem is obviously already an issue if the other kids at school are picking on her daughter because of this 'shaking'. Another issue is safety, what is this was to happen when this little girl was out side crossing a road and the shaking made her loose her balance causing her to topple over, this could then cause further problems. Please please please encourage your friend to take her daughter to the doctors, offer to go with her if she needs morale support. good luck

could really be any number of things from anxiety to stress to a trapped nerve somewhere.... only way to put minds at rest is with a visit to the doctors for a check over, no doubt if it was anything really serious the doc would of already picked up on it with previous visits assuming the child had been to the docs before for checkups....

it dosnt seem to sound anything majorly serious, but then again i am not a doctor so wouldnt know, i think you just need peace of mind so a check up is going to be the only way to get that

I would take her to the doctor just so she stops being harrassed and to see if there is a potentially worse issue. Not only is this embaressing for the poor girl, but it could be a safety issue!

Take the girl to the doctor and see if she can have some help so she doesn't loose every ounce of her self-confidence.

There could be lots of reasons why she does this, but, if it were my daughter I would take her to the doctors. It is already and issue if it is causing her problems at school - they will only get worse as she goes to Senior school.
It could be merely a concentration habit..... both my children stick their tongues out, I know that sounds funny and I'm not making light of it honestly, but recommend getting it checked out.

Take the poor child to the doctor. She must be miserable. Maybe you all do not want her on medication but that is why medication is there. The poor thing might have something that requires attention and if you wait it might be to late.

I would advise taking her to a doctor. It may need some investigating, or it maybe nothing to worry about. I have never heard of anything similar, but it would worry me if it was my child

your "mate" doesn't care enough about her to see if a physician can help. Well, he couldn't care less about you either. So far in denial afraid to spend a few dollars to find out. If he loved her he would take care of her. People treat their animals better than that. Why r u blaming a......guy anyhow? Your both guilty of neglect. I can't believe you admitted it on here, but that's ok....you've taken the first step. I've had the same thing over 10 years until somebody told me bkuz I couldn't see it. I have been on medication now for 20 years and I'm happy with it, except the cost, but it's worth it to look in the mirror and not see my head shake like a freak.
