i had 2 premolars extracted for my brace and 2 molars and i can assure you that after the operation i didn't need to take any painkillers for the premolars, it was just the hole and the plug (the clot) and i didnt disturb it, just rinsed it every few hours with saline solution (just make your own or get some from your uni hospital) or a good mouthwash like listerine or corsodyl.

The premolars are only small anyway so i swear you'll be fine. Just tell your orthodontist if you don't feel numb enough!
And keep breathing deeply and steadily, concentrate on your breathing and be aware of your entire body and not just your mouth...it tends to take the thought of appliances in your mouth.

I'm glad i'm not scared of the dentist, it seems like one of the worst things to be afraid of. And i'm going to be a dental student in 5 months anyway, so i guess that helps to...and my family are dentists so i can't really be afraid of it ha ha.

I had exactly the same thing done but on the lower jaw. Still have to have the upper one done. I was worried for days and was really nervous. My dentist double and tripled checked I couldn't feel a thing - then he pressed on to the tooth and it popped out. There was no forceful pulling or grinding - apparently dentistry has come a long way since then. The whole thing was a breeze - so don't worry!
One thing I did experience was that after the procedure I had to sit for a little while because my legs went a little shakey. So make sure you can have a rest, or that someone can come collect you after the procedure.
I was also advised to take a pain killer in advance of the anaesthetic wearing off as the trick is to numb the pain before it starts.
As for what you can do now - try and stop worrying. I felt like fool for all the stress I put myself through in advance of my extractions. The sense of relief afterward was overwhelming!
Do eat before the procedure though! Low blood sugar + tooth extraction = passing out!

I don't know if the dentist removed premolars or whatever.... But I do know that the dentist removed 6 teeth from my mouth (I have a small mouth). I had already been wearing a headgear from the ortho at the time, and I couldn't wear the heargear for a few days since I had some stitches in my mouth. All this was before I got my braces.

While I had braces, my orthodontist took off the actual braces on those 4 teeth and cut the wires short so I could have my 4 premolars extracted. It really wasn't that bad. I had to see an oral surgeon. He gave me laughing gas which helped and numbed me up pretty good. I thought it would hurt worse but I did okay. The worst part was actually have 4 spaces and waiting for them to slowly get pushed together with the braces & wires. Don't worry. The pain wasn't that severe. Good luck!

Don't be afraid. In fact, if your premolars eruption is complete (both teeth fully visible), then it should be a very simple surgery (unless their roots have unusual shapes, but that's usually shown by the dental film).
Anyway, the procedure is pretty simple, free of swelling and free of pain (well it may annoy a bit after the surgery, but won't hurt). And it gets even easier if yours are the upper ones. Just take your med and it will be even better.

There is a lot of crunching sounds as the flesh pulls away from the bone. It will be cool. The NO2 kills your worries. The good news is you will not need your widsom teeth pulled unless your jaw is REALLY small. Another plus is that the braces will work quicker this way. Chill. Be strong. Tea bags will spot the bleeding.

It will be okay. Uncomfortable for a few days but you'll get through it. I had my wisdom teeth out in September and the drugs are so good that you really experience little pain, just a bit awkward eating for a week or so. Braces can hurt especially when they first go on and when they get tightened. Good luck with it, you'll be fine.

From, terrified person to terrified person, I can assure you it will not be as bad as my dentist.first, he lied saying he would just look at my teeth, and then using fingers, ripped them out without warning(it happened to three of them, and by the end I was screaming). He didn't even put enough numbness

You will be fine. My boss's daughter had it done one morning and was in the office that afternoon. Just take the meds for pain as needed....
