Well, i have natural curly hair, and the last time i visited a hairstylist(quite a long time ago) and asked her to help layer my hair, she told me that curly hair cannot be layered(so i straightened my hair for the past 3 yrs). So is this true? Or is she just inept. Also, can someone recommend me a website that teaches you how to tie/bun up long curly hair, preferably one that has ponytails and such, as long as the hair is not let down, my school doesn't allow long hair to be let down.

I have naturally curly hair and I have been a hair stylist for over twenty years and my hair is layered and I also layer naturally curly hair almost every day. Sorry to say that that hair stylist is crazy. Layering curly hair lightens it up for the curls to be able to be controlled. It also looks much better, because when curly hair is one length it looks wide not long, so layering it will help it also look longer rather than wide. I call it the triangle head syndrome. I know I need mine cut when I look like I have a triangle head. I don't know why any stylist would tell you that, but I do apologize for my industry, sometimes ignorance is bliss. Curly hair is also the best to put up in fun cute styles, sorry don't have a website but you can always find some magazines and look for pictures. I'm sure it will look good no matter what you decide. Again I am sorry this stylist misled you. Just remember when you get your hair layered, be sure to tell the stylist that you need it long enough to put up and have then suggest something cute. Good Luck!

Yes curly hair can be layered. As a matter of fact your hair will probably look better with layers. Sorry I dont know of a website to teach you how to put your hair up,but I'm sure there's one out there. Try your favorite hair care product's website. Good luck.

I have had curly hair my whole life and the only way I have been able to live is with it layered because it is so thick I get headaches. This woman was really inept. just rember it is harder to put in pony tails with layered hair. as for the bun they make these great nylon things that you just wrap your hair up in after you put in a ponytail. no work .

It may have been her way of telling you that she didn't know how to work with your curly hair--be happy in that case!
I am trying to grow out a horrendous haircut (like my profile's) that ended up with so many layers in my curly hair.
I feel it may never grow out and look normal.
I have had great hairdressers, though, and they did wonders with layering my curly hair.
Take your time and find a hairdresser that does good things with your hair.
Good Luck!

All types of hair can be layered. It is most likely that your stylist just didn't know how to deal with yours. If your hair is tightly curled, I recommend long layers. If it has a looser curl, tell your stylist tha you would like her to slide cut or razor cut your hair, because that will bring out the best in it.

I have naturally wavy hair and my stylist said that layers look BEST with this type of hair. She said it would be too heavy if you didn't have layers. I get compliments on my hair all the time.

whoever said that was just lazy. curly hair looks better layered. about the bun...put it in a pony. then twist it. when its tight then wrap it in a circle. use bobby pins to hold it or another rubber band.
