I'm no longer a member of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints... but I spent many years studying the doctrine of my used-to-be faith...

Anyone under the age of 8 is believed to have not reached the "Age of Accountability", and thus can't fully be responsible for his/her actions. Likewise, those with suffering mental capacities are like children and thus know not what they do. Don't think of it as them being "guaranteed exhaltation" but rather since they know not what they do, are forgiven immediately without reluctance by God and are thus exhalted.

Mormons believe that God will judge the individual and hold them accountable for those things they can and are accountable for. Mormons believe children are born innocent and aren't accountable until they can make rational, educated, spiritual based decisions. They believe children under the age of eight are not able to understand the ultimate and spiritual consequences of certain actions and therefore can't be accountable. It would be UNJUST for God to hold someone accountable for a decision or actions when they don't comprehend the law or expectations of them. Mormons don't believe we are born sinners (we're not tainted with Adam's transgression). God is merciful and thus sent his Son to take upon Him all our sins. Those sins committed by those without accountability are taken away by Christ. This is all because God loves us so much and wants us all on a level playing field. It is illogical to think God would be otherwise. He is a Just God, thankfully.

From the Book of Mormon, specifically Moroni 8:11.

" And their little children need no repentance, neither baptism. Behold, baptism is unto repentance to the fulfilling the commandments unto the remission of sins. But little children are alive in Christ,"

ok, im not Mormon but was wondering if you are for or against this.?

Your question makes me think you are not for god receiving children under 8 or mentally challenged people . Is this right. ?

According to LDS beliefs, certain ordinances, such as baptism are required of all those who hope to achieve exaltation. Yet millions have lived and died throughout the earth's history without having received these saving ordinances. Unlike traditional protestant doctrine which suggests that those who die without baptism are forever cut-off from the presence of God, LDS doctrine teaches that all individuals will have an equitable and fair opportunity to hear the 'fullness of the gospel' taught in this life, or in the life to come, and will subsequently have the opportunity to either accept the message of Jesus Christ and His gospel, or reject it. Church members are committed to performing these sacred ordinances vicariously in behalf of those who have died without the opportunity of the gospel or its saving ordinances. It is their belief that those who have died without these ordinances need them in order to progress beyond this life. They feel obligated to perform these ordinances for all mankind who have lived before them, that all may have an equal opportunity to receive the blessings of the Celestial Kingdom of God if they choose to do so through their faith in and acceptance of Jesus Christ
