It's a misunderstanding compounded by ignorance.
On 12-21-2012, the Mayan Long Count calendar goes from 12 Baktuns to 13 Baktuns (so in that respect it is VERY like the 2000 hype) and for some reason people think that means the "end" of the calendar (which is absurd; time and calendars don't end) and therefore the end of the world.
There is a galactic alignment that day which signifies the rebirth of the sun and a new world age. It's very apparent that the new world age is coming in already, and it's not going to be a physical ending of the world, just a shift in thinking.

I even have self assurance that throughout the time of accordance to the Holy Bible - that element is quite short simply by fact the Rapture! And it did not initiate interior the 1830s! in case you state That - you're the two not Christian or don't be attentive to Your Holy Bible nicely in any respect! motives why - Matthew 24: forty-forty two Jesus Himself defined what could take place - The Rapture! only the actuality! Actually one of the south American peoples calendar predicts the equivalent of the end of the world in 2012. Not sure which I think its the mayans. Anyhow the new ager's have latched onto this and are perpetuating the prophecy.

its not going to end. i have put alot of research into the subject and if my observations are right the world is going to change. something big is going to happen on december 12, 2012 that will change the way we live forever. the myans couldnt predict it because they didnt know what it was and that is why their calander ends on that date.
so in short its not ending its changing
