His condition is located on his face and flares up regularly. His mother and sister both have this condition, but it is located on their elbows and knees. I dont understand why his appeared on his face. I am worried that a child of ours might have this condition, what are the chances that it will ?? And what are the best ways to rid the redness and flare- ups ? It is very embarassing for him.

I, too, have seborrheic dermatitis, and the doctor prescribed an ointment for me that works very well. It is called Metronizadole gel, or Fougera. I get outbreaks around my eyebrows and in my ears a lot, and this gel helps keep the outbreaks under control.

Are you sure that it is not eczema that his mother and sister have? It is more common for eczema to appear on knees and elbows than seborrhea!

I've had this condition all my life. It's easily treatable now a days with several medications. He needs to go see a dermatologist to get these medications as they are not over the counter purchasable.

One is a sulfur compound you use on your face. I use it in the shower and just rub it on my face at the affected areas that are red. These are my cheeks and eyebrows. Rub it in for 10 to 20 seconds. Next, he gave me a topical steroid cream to use on the same areas. The redness is now completely gone and the skin appears normal as the other skin around the previously red areas.

Additionally, there is a cream that is over the counter called "Redness Relief" that is recognized as effective for just the redness. I use that sometimes too. He might try this first as it might clear it up by itself. Any drug store should carry it.

Good luck!

Some of my patients use this for that very condition, providing they aren't allergic to iodine or cod liver oil at all, then it is recommended.
Also, a balanced diet to treat the body from the inside to out is important too in dealing with this dermatitis.
These people ship Worldwide now and they have testemonials on their site too.
I used it on myself and for my baby daughters. It truly worked and was worth the delivery :)
You only need a little of the ointment each day for it to be effective. The benefits of it are tremendous :)
