There can be no clear cut answer. Cancer is not that simple to understand. I lost 2 of my relatives to lung cancer and they never smoked. they did not work in a second hand smoke environment or their job was in an office and, get this - they were young. They were tee-totallars to boot. Straight and narrow like an arrow.
You could be lucky and live a ripe old age and you could be still smoking half a pack a day. You could get a dianosis tomorrow that is positive for the Big C. No one knows.
You could wait and see - no one could give you a straight answer in this Y!A or your doctor or anywhere else for that matter.
Here is my suggestion - keep smoking. Life is short. Enjoy it to the fullest when you can. Just keep an eye on the number smoked. To make a point, the advocacy groups talk too much about the ills of smoking. While it is there, no denying it, so are many other things in life. Nobody talks about them. Like exhaust fumes from cars for example. I think the smoking advisory is overdone.
FYI - I am a non smoker. Never touched it, never will.
Good luck.

your unhealthy lifestyle will definitely precipitate mutations in your body cells and cause it to form abnormal cells, this abnormal cells pile on top of each other and form a tumor and in the long run they spread - that's where cancer starts. if you have had relatives who died with any form of cancer then cancer is in your bloodline which increases your risk of developing lung cancer faster. it may be several years from now but the problem with lung cancer is it's very hard hard to diagnose it early because the only symptom usually is only cough from time to time. when detected it is usually too late, and the client dies within months or even a few days. if you have no cancer in your bloodline, it might took long as many years but it won't take long for other chronic infectious pulmonary diseases to hit you. take care of yourself.

It is different for different people. It isn't worth the risk. Lung cancer is not necessarily the main concern with smoking. Cardiovascular concerns are also very important

I don't know...I think you should try think about how to get stop smoking instead and think about your family and friends(if you have any) They love you and want to see you well, not with lung cancer.
