How would you feel if you go to the shop to buy a chocolate and the shop owner is listening to religious seminars LOUDLY on his radio, and it's preaching about how all must FEAR ALLAH etc. I just want to by a freaken chocolate and this dude behind the counter has a stern face and looks at me like I'm his enemy because I'm a Heathen and I don't fear his 'lord'?

Is spirituality something we should promote with terror? Or is it something that’s supposed to bring peace and destroy feelings of fear and hate?

Barry Calvin: Yes, but to be fair there are some religions that don't use fear like I can'tr remember Buddha telling everyone they will get punished if they don't follow his ways etc.

It's just when I see these people trapped and literally enslaved by this 'lord' of theirs, I feel sorry for them, I feel like I have to save them from this 'god' that tries to harm them. A god that wants you to fear him is not a good god, you guys should try escape him, destroy him, his evil....

I wouldn't have purchased the chocolate from him in such case.

I agree spirituality is not something we should promote with terror.

Good question. Why should people fear the lord n god if they are supposedly so nice?. Spirituality is def not something we should fear at all,for we cannot live in peace and harmony if we live in fear. Fear turns to anger, anger turns to hate, hence many wars over religion!. How can thier lives be thier own when brought up to fear thier religion. Bow down and worship or you will be damned etc, how stupid is that. i am sure, if there was only one God, that he/she would not want this happening, but i am sure it is all the word of man. Religion, no matter what your faith is, should be embraced with love and joy, peace and light etc, not hatred and violence. Often it is nice to feel that there is someone/thing there for people. There is no proof that anyone will be damned when they passover. It is all power of suggestion, but people will believe what they want to believe, so it is up to that individual wether or not they choose to fear. As for the preaching.....OMG!. Thats it, end of babble!.
Blessings.

I think if a person is out to do business, he should leave religion on the outside, that's not to say I don't ink we should try to bring people to God, and there should be "Some Fear" about God, after all he holds the the reins to your life , but an to broadcast it in a business place is not good business.. if this mans wants to spread the gospel, then he should do one at time..
I am always for spreaking the word of God, but you can not force it on people.

I can only answer you by relating my own experience. When I get out my meditation cushion and just sit there, trying to allow body and mind to drop away. What I sense is an eternal emptiness. But not an emptiness that is void and sterile. But an emptiness that is full, beneficent and welcoming. Seems to me, to live in fear of a vengeful judging God is a negative way to go about it. I'm afraid the prevalent message of Islam is very negative. I have no idea how we can change that. Be well.

Im sorry you had to encounter that..
The shop keeper shouldnt really be playing such recordings in a shop.

I am a muslim and Islam is an invitation,, harsh stern words do nothing but turn people against thst which they hear.

Islam teaches mankind to come to know the creater of all created beings and to fall in love with his unimaginable beauty and his endless giving from his endless bounties.

Its not to do with FEAR FEAR FEAR... The people that go around preaching FEAR,, or promoting this FEAR aspect as this shop keeper is doing are truly not practicing the essence of Islam,.

The Reality of fear the creator in islam is to say that we are not free from being in His (the creaters) dominion, there for know that you are not free from his knowledge of you.

This is to reinforce in man restrictions and awareness of whats wrong and right.

So that they may be conciouss of there actions.

There are people out there that take a small part of a verse, and they seperate that portion from the whole verse, and so it comes across bad, but if the verse is not complete and the explanation of the meaning is destroyed then that which they have focused on is not in line with the truth of the verse and has been manipulated.

Sadly these people are the ones who then create these untruths of this genuine simple and peaceful loving religeon into what we now see and hear on our TV's and papers.

you know,, we are all creaeted and given a valuble gift, the gift of free thinking and contemplation.

We have to hold tight to this and not let others superimpose their ideas and thoughts onto us.

Mankind is in a state whereby a person thinks this is my idea, this is what I like, but really,, those ideas and likes have been superimposed onto us and we dont even realise it.

When we hear anything and it does not settle with you then do not take it as that.

keep tight to your ability to think and contemplate and use your freedom to research into that particular thing and if you are looking and searching with a sincerety to discover thruths,, then you well see what i would call marvels.

This applies in all aspects of our lifes and to all faiths, beliefs and religeons,,, at the end of the day no matter what our beliefs are we are not seperate as we are all united under the umbrella of the one creator.

The true people of islam say: there is no hate, for how can one have hate for that which your lord loves, you love everything that he loves on account of that love you have for Him (the creater),

True sincere believers have no hate for any of mankind, they naturally develop a great compasion for mankind, wishing only good for all.

A life is a life regardless of the outer detail... the soul is the main being and is what makes us ONE.

Paradox: If you did ever go back to that shop, I would tell the owner politly that you would appreciate that he did not play such media, if he wishes to play his media on his faith then better he play something that is inviting rather than destroying,

It's just old misunderstanding about Islam. It's not fearing god as a ruthless being but to be afraid when you commit things that Islam thought is sin.

Our god knows that other religion hate Islam because it brought a new, and right religion, a religion where human is equal and RESPONSIBLE ONLY FOR THEIR SIN, not free from sin by sacrificing god's life with teachings that come from human's writing. That's just really absurd.
And hatred of other religion was continued up until now with what we can see in Guantanamo prison, french discrimative policy about wearing symbol of religion (they refuse moslem to wear jilbab cloth but let christian wears cross necklace)US slavery of people of Iraq, US ambiguity with Palestine-Israel dispute etc, that really hurts the feeling of moslem. Can't you all see it's not fair.
When the world now see Islam as a brutal force it's just reaction for all the opression they had in this world.
I hope people of the world can see beauty in Islam, and respect our rights to be treated equal and free of bad thoughts about us.
You can ask questions about the greatness of Islam to me and I will try to answer it the best that

Thank you for your attention, may Allah the Mercifull Bless You All

The situation would have made me feel uncomfortable and so I probably would have sought out a different shop to buy my candy from. I do not think it is healthy to be afraid of one's creator, but of course, that is my opinion and not necessarily the "truth" for others.

You can not save someone who WILL NOT save himself. It's too bad, but that's the way it is. That is what life has taught me, and so I have stopped trying to rescue people from traps of their own making. It is a waste of time, energy and emotion. Sometimes the best way to help someone is to live a successful and happy life and allow others to see this and perhaps want this for themselves. When a person is ready for a change, they will seek out people whose lives set a good example in hope that those people can help them make a similar positive change in their lives. When that happens, THEN is the time that you can help them save themselves. Otherwise, if you try to force change when they are not ready, you are likely to make them despise you, and then you'll be the last person they will approach if they are ever truly ready for help.

Spirituality-terror-hate....... One of these words isn't like the other two.

Its supposed to bring peace and harmony and understanding and fulfillment and it does.

People preaching about hate and terror are not spiritual in any way.

Christians I know love God and follow him out of love not fear.

EXACTLY - I believe that spirituality is suppose to bring peace, love and harmony. Point taken. I also believe that god is of Unconditional Love and the old saying " IF IT AINT LOVE, THEN IT AINT GOD".
I dont believe fear is godlike. To me, their are two main emotions in this world, FEAR and LOVE. I do believe LOVE is of GOD. Dont know where they get FEAR from, or why they find reasons to excuse that word.

Religion should bring individuals closer to God and thus closer to a more genuine and thus happy state of being.

However, u can show the compassion of Understanding by deciding to realise that these poor individuals are not operating at their most enlightened states but also decide that it doesnt mean u need to burden urslef with anger towards them (not that i know u ARE angry at them but just in case)

Since when is spirituality NOT promoted with terror? Don't Christians answer questions from atheists with comments like, "You'll find out someday" or "I'd be careful if I were you because if you're wrong you're going to end up someplace very hot." That's the whole foundation of Christianity, a threat, and it's crap, as is every other religion on this planet. It's all based on fear of death, and made up stories about what happens afterward (as if anything does). It's a joke, and the guy running the shop should turn that crap down and run his business like a professional.
