Mary Magdalen was a significant religious figure which was not unusual in her time. Obviously there were chauvinists among the early churchmen, because the allegation of prostitute definitely stems from them. The Gospel of Thomas which was not inclluded in The Bible refers to Jesus frequently kissing her on the lips and it was unusual for religious leaders to be unmarried then, although their marriages were ritualised and subject to long seperations. As far as I know any further conclusion is an educated guess, or another attempt to make money out of one of those absured books currently in fashion, which make Von Danniken look like a first rate academic. There is a lot of discussion about what was included in The Bible. Revelation was very controversial. Personally I do not think some of the writings which were omitted were of any great interest.

The books you are talking about are referred to as the "Gnostic gospels". They are rejected by most branches of Christianity.
As for what's authentic: who knows? Lots of people have very strong beliefs, but it's so far back in history that it's almost impossible to prove - but not all things that are unprovable are equally likely (or unlikely).
Did Jesus really walk on water, turn water to wine and raise the dead? Lots of people believe he did. Did he get married and have children? Fewer people believe he did. Which is objectively more plausible rather depends on whether you believe he was the Son of God or a mortal prophet/charlatan/madman.
These books may be the real truth, or they may be the early equivalent of the Hitler Diaries - made-up tales of the life of a famous historical person. They could be genuine, or out-and-out fakes (ie intended to deceive), or just New Testament "fanfic"!

Jesus was likely married, and the figure from the gospels he is most likely married to is the Magdalene.
There are many indications in the Bible that Jesus was married, including the Wedding at Cana, the raising of Lazarus, the Last Supper/washing of the feet, and the discovery of the empty tomb--all of which suggest Mary was Christ's wife.
Other Gnostic Gospels state explicitly that Jesus married Mary, and that is likely why they were omitted from the New Testament.

No. Dan Brown is a author of FICTION. he's almost truly no longer a biblical pupil. Jesus knew that His time in the international should be very short. He change into in touch jointly with his challenge and not in any respect actual relationships. Mary change into truly one of His disciples and an in intensity chum. no longer something extra.

**You people should read the question !
" mary(prostitute) " = Mary Magdalene (for the religious !!)
Some believe that she did - they also believe that she is sitting to his right, in the painting 'The Last Supper'.
That's why The da Vinci Code has been so popular - it raised the question again.
Who knows - who cares, it's so long ago.
Anyway, if it proved to be true - it would destroy the Catholic faith, and Rome would never allow that.

Imagine what would have happened if they transmitted something similar about Mohammed. They would all be in the streets trying to shoot the Sky satellite down with AK-47's
Who knows but what we do know is the bible if probably written by man and certainly edited by man. Therefore it is subject to their perceptions and opinions and possibly their subversive motivations.
i Believe he existed and he was a great man and a good hearted mam. You can't really pick and choose who you fall in love with so it's quite possible.

You are referring to Mary Magdalene, and not the Virgin Mary, aren't you?
The writings you mentioned are not considered inspired by the Holy Spirit and thus, does not belong with the rest of the King James Bible. I think they are included in the Catholic Bible. However, I don't think that it was mentioned in any of those books either.

because stupid people who think the bible is true don't want there to be any other side to jesus's life in case they should have to question their faith and realise that jesus was an ordinary man who probably did have a family. he would have been considered abnormal by the jewish community at the time if he did not have a wife at least. those books might not even be authentic but it's better to be open minded and study those documents than just dismissing them

He didn't marry her, he just had s*x with her.
What 'new books'? Sound like they would support the DeVinci Code?
