You pick ones that you LOVE! That is the only thing that matters. Fresh flowers that you think are pretty go with everything!
You can get wildflower seeds to plant. Some are even embedded in this paper stuff, you just roll it out, water it, and let them go! Then you have plenty to choose from, and I think they keep growing back. This is a good way to decorate the inside and outside!
Anyway, that wasn't your question. I think the ones you love for either the look or the smell are great choices. Colors of flowers really do go together well, you can't screw it up unless you are just too picky. What ties them together is that they are all flowers. You can coordinate them to match your decor but, again, that really doesn't matter. I guess you do need to watch mixing sometimes, so that you don't end up with a stinky bouquet...too many scents, or clashing scents.
One thing to really make flowers look great is to create interest using different heights and textures. Work in odd numbers so you always have a center. Put tall flowers in the back with some leaves on to fill out the bouquet, fanned out in thirds. Then tuck shorter flowers in between them, and work forward. Then tuck the even shorter ones in around everything, and finish off with something wispy and tiny, like baby's breath, or all leafy and grassy, like sprigs of ivy to finish filling it out.
Another way to create interest is using all the same flower in different colors, or all the same color of different kinds of flowers. But as I said, you will usually go for some variety in textures and heights.
Use oasis (the foamy stuff that you soak with water to hold things in place, or marbles, or what is called a frog, which is just a glass piece with holes in it, does the same thing. And then there is floral tape, and floral wire for holding flowers together that you want to stay together.
Enjoy and don't forget to sniff!
