Buying private is buying AS IS with no recource, if any Mfg warranty balance it will be transferred.Yes you can buy an extended warranty and it becomes buyers beware as there are many after market warranty Co that are no good.

I would want to get the VIN number and run it through the local
tag agency to see if any mechanics leins are on it - and if it
comes back "clean."

There are several maintenance plans that will be glad to sell you an extended policy - BUT - with the car out a few years - the
repair 'history' is out so they 'know' if this is a problematic car
and the premium just went UP UP UP!

best of luck

Try running the VIN through carfax.com, but don't worry too much about the mechanical reliability of it. As long as it runs for a little while, it will be allright. After that, other modes of transportation when be needed.

Spend the $25.00 for carfax. This will determine where the car has been and how long each owner has driven it. Check with a dealership about extended warranty's.
