I have no Italian ancestors, and I love Italy. I lived there for over two years as a matter of fact and will go back as often as possible. If you go, don't skip out on Sicily and Southern Italy (Calabria, Puglia, Salento, etc.) There are some beautiful places to see there, such as Taormina, the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Alberobello, etc. If you go, you will fall in love with three things: 1. the people, 2. the food, 3. the scenery!

Italy has so many things that are famous in the world; the historical sites, the cuisine, and not to forget the Vatican. So, I will definitely like to visit Italy, even though I'm not of Italian descent.

Yes, and I did finally go on a cruise that had three stops in Italy. I finally saw most of what I wanted to see, The Vatican, and the Colleseum in Rome, the city of Rome, the Leaning Tower in Piza, and Mount Vesuvious and the City of Pompei. As a bonus I also saw the city of Florence, the city of Sorrento and the island of Sicily. I experienced Italian food the way Italians make it in their restaurants.

There is so much history and culture in Italy and its major cities that applies to everyone of all ethnic backgrounds.

I am American, and absolutely loved it. If you have the oppurtunity you should go! The people ( at least in Rome) were not rude to Americans, but very friendly. The food is the best I have ever tasted and I have been to 3 other countries. The sites are jaw-dropping. Dont be in a hurry, take your time and enjoy all that Italy has to offer. You will not regret it!

Italy is visited every year by millions of people fom all over the world. At any time of the day, in Milan, Florence, Venice or Rome you can see dozen of tourist from all over - from Germany, England, US, but also China and Japan...
Italy is beautiful, and it's home of the Reinassance, one of the most creative and artistic periods in history of mankind. That's why so many italian cities are so beautiful.
I know people from all over the world who've been to Italy and they all liked it. I wouldn't listen to your friend...saying that just people with italian descent like Italy is like saying that just japanese people like sushi...

Ciao! I live in U.S. but am Italian from Rome, so I will not answer yes or no, as I am VERY pro-Italy.

However I think your friend is just giving you a personal opinion and you should take it as such. But tell him that he needs to visit Italy more than anyone else... then ask him again.

And by the way, my American husband says you should go!

I'm italian, but I had many foreign friends from all over the world coming to visit me for a day and then spend at least one week visiting many of our italian cities. I'm sure anyone would love coming here both for our cities full of art, for our food and in summer also for our weather :)
