I believe and have been told by my religion which is Roman Catholic that as soon as conception there is a living life so there will be a soul. That is why the RC Church is against abortion. Your baby will be in heaven and I believe you will meet up with him/her when you pass. This is only a belief, but I hope it gives you some peace and I'm so sorry for your loss, I understand it is devastating but time will heal.

I am very sorry at your loss.
The only comfort I can give is really straight from the Bible.
Jesus cried when his friend Lazarus died. so grief is normal. Then Jesus resurrected Lazarus back to life...but think about this. Lazarus eventually [ apparently, the Bible does not say] grew old and died AGAIN.
So what happens when we die?
Read Ecclesiastes 9; 5,6
Then read Revelation 20; 12,13
Your baby will remain asleep in death until resurrected. Where to?
Back into a new fleshly body back on earth. The same applies to you.
So given time, you will see your baby again.
Read Psalms 37; 9.11.29.34
As to whether we have a separate 'soul'.
The Bible
says NO. Genesis says nothing about Adam being given a separate soul.
Because he WAS a living soul.
Soul=Hebrew word NEPHESH= THAT WHICH BREATHES
Similarly, animals are souls.
Living things.
The ones going to heaven are very limited [144,000] from responsible adults who will assist Jesus as Kings and Priests in the coming judgement. They will be even ABOVE the angels, having earthly experience.
(1 Corinthians 6:2-3) Or do YOU not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by YOU, are YOU unfit to try very trivial matters? 3 Do YOU not know that we shall judge angels? Why, then, not matters of this life?

I am very sorry to hear of your loss and can only quote one interpretation of The Bible to you. Knowledge of the true meaning of the original texts has increased as more are found and studied. The original translators were in a sense pioneers. The 'soul' is not now considered to be a seperate ghostly entity, but the life force within a living person. The Bible also states 'the dead know nothing at all.....'. This is because at the day of judgement the faithful and the innocent will be brought back to eternal life from a state of rest by means of resurrection. This is by no means a universally accepted view, even among Christians, but represents one careful analysis of Bibical texts.

My point of view isn't Christian, but I'd say one of two things might be the case, assuming souls exist at all:
1) The soul of the child went back into the arms of the loving Deity, to be nurtured and perhaps born at another time and place.
2) The child you carried, if it had sufficient abnormalities that it simply couldn't have been born in any case, might not have been infused with a soul to begin with, as the Deity knew this and refrained from sending one into the fetus.
Something to think about, anyway. I hope that one of those possibilities might bring you some comfort, and wish you the best of luck in the future.

this is truly a controversial question.
I heard someone testify that conception of life does not always exist at conception of semen and ovum.
the spirits of all existence have a choice to join the fetus while they are in the womb or to join the new born infant at birth, but the same person also said that spirits can choose not to be joined with the fetus or even the new born.
Also it can be the decision of God to keep a fetus as a still born or to Stop a birth at anytime.
While a fetus can be like a robot that has movement and show a beating heart, it takes the spirit to animate the flesh otherwise the fetus is born without life.

There are no souls.
Many many fetuses are lost that way; I forget the statistics, but it's something incredibly high (a tenth? a quarter?)
The fetus is certainly not conscious until around 22 weeks, when connections between the thalamus and the cerebral cortex start to form.
You are at peace. You are certainly not at fault. Be happy. Try again.

I am very sorry for your loss.
According to Jewish mystics, Hawai'ian and other mystics there are three parts of the soul.
I will speak ro Hawai'ian mysticism which I have the best understanding.
The unihipili (nefesh in Jewish mysticism) enters at conception.
The 'aumakua (neshammah in Jewish mysticism) enters at birth.
The uhane (ruach in Jewish mysticism) enters when the child reaches the age of reason about 7-9 years old.
In your case; you lost the nefesh or unihipili. It just went back to the Creator and will be born later to some other mother, or possibly even you at a later date.

Human life begins at conception -- thus, that's when we have souls.
Some Catholic theologians held that babies and young children who die without baptism go to a spiritual state called Limbo -- although Limbo was never formally defined as Church doctrine.
The Church does commit (and always has committed) the souls of unbaptized babies and young children to the mercy of God -- which means that there is the possibility, even a strong one, that they go to Heaven.
I think that God provides an opportunity for babies and young children who die without baptism to decide for or against Him after death. And what baby or young child wouldn't decide to be with God?

There is only 1 soul, and this soul is shared amongst all living and non-living beings; there are no lost souls, in this place there are only misguided people.

"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you".
The soul and all of the dignity and value of a fully formed sentient human being exists from the very moment of conception.
