turkey's soccer team?

Question

when i think of my country, i love thinking about nationalism, and when i think about nationalism, pienso en el futbol!!! (i think of soccer). And i know turkish people love nationalism too. I think it is a very beautiful feeling to be together and share a passion for your country... and i was wondering what turkish people like to be nationalistic about? i don't really know that much about their soccer team. could somone tell me? is it good? where does it rank?

ah thanks guys, this is good (what i understand of it anyway...) now if someone could just tell me what all that stuff in turkish means (?!)....
by the way, to eras, i am not spanish. my team is mexico!. so maybe turkey v mexico in the future would be cool... although it won't be for a european cup haha. so now you know where my love of my country comes from. mexico te amo a morir!

Turkish people like nationalism cos we have a history that we can be very very proud of it. For example, Canakkale, Gallipoli Battles, in World War I, in 1915, Turks didnt let French and English pass through Canakkale in which more than a half million Turkish soldiers died. Also, more than a half million soldiers died from enemy countries and especially Anzacs coming from Australia. But, who could say a war would cause Turkey and Australia to be very very good allies. let me write here what Turkish commander, who is the best ancestor of Turks, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk said;

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives… you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets where they lie side by side here in this country of ours… You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."

Also, after World War I, Turkey which was one of the beaten countries, was the only nation that gets its independence with a war not to let occupiers be made concessions and take control of Turkey because independence is one of the biggest important thing for Turkish people.

So, there are lots of things to write about Turkish history. About soccer? Not so much... Only, in 2002 World Cup, Turkish team has been third playing the most beautiful football ever and after that always dissappointing. At the time being, the best team is Fenerbahce in Turkey, but, even they're not so succesfull. galatasaray? not like its old days and very poor right now..

Therefore, the nationality source of Turkish people is not the football, it is Turkish history.

then, I hope one day we (Turkey and Mexico) play a World Cup Final...

As magical of a run Turkey went on in UEFA '08, I'd still take Argentina. The Albicelestes have a lot of good young guys, led by attackers Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez - if the two played, I don't know if Turkey could have a match for those two. I do think Turkey's program is on the rise, though, and should be able to compete with the big boys like they did in Austria/Switzerland this year.

You are right, Turkish people are Nationalist. For us, Flag and Motherland are very important. Motherland is a whole and No one can be divided it. To swear for flag and motherland can not be forgiven. Of course, I am not saying to kill that people. But these people are rubbish for us. No one can be friend this kind person.

Anyway, For me, first of all Turkiye National Team and then Galatasaray FC.

i think when there's our national teams football mach then we all are 1..so yes it is a time even enemies are friends lol.. No they haven't been very good lately, but I guess that doesn't make any difference :o) But I would say it's same in England they get like that over their national team, so must be most countries then..

Dear Asker, the Turkish like TV shows such as 'Kurtlar Vadisi' as a manifestation of their nationalistic emotions.

These days football fans open up banner in the stadiums saying "We're all Ogun" --> this Ogun becomes the name of a young assassin who recently killed an armenian journalist.

Yes, the football stadiums are rapidly turning into arenas where the spectators feel free to express their racist affiliations. Turkey is no exception.
