Why on earth should anyone respect culture, religion or tradition?

Wheres the logical rationality in following rules or codes of conduct etc simply as its always been done or somone or some book says so?

As opposed to anaylsing whether its a fair, just good and benefitcal to society thing or not?

For example...

Bonzai trees, pagodas, Tai chi, noodle soup all are harmless and make life fun and pretty.

Arabian food is nice and yummy, the ismalic ban on alcohol makes sense given all the trouble you get or at least very restricted...

These are understandable.

Likewise tradional dances and some not all dress.

But things like a veil that hides a face and personality and identity and person, foot binding that cripples children, forced marriage and family honour akin to human trafficing sex slavoury.

Wheres the good in that?

Why not look as see gays... tradionally and relgiously deemed bad likewise witches.

But have they are a whole done anything

done anything nasty to anyone unproked?

Not that Im aware of...

Often I see gays being great at comedy, the creative arts, cooking, haircuts etc.

Witches associating with new age shops of chill out music, josticks and positve attiudes to woemn , peace, love, sex and respect and harmony with nature.

I undersatnd in the desert many years ago pork would have been dangerous in steams of going off.

But now we have freezers, hygenic cooking and food safety.

its not as though pigs are usually pets.

I may not like classical music but it ain't hurting anyone or being used to control anyone.

Curries are good but I seriously doubt the origonator of sikhisim would want children and wifes crying that their dad is dead as his turban was a lousey crash helmet in an accident.

Im pretty sure he would have been up for a compromise of combining a turban and safety helmet that did not act as a crown of status.

So why persist to forcing the following of bad rules

Simply as tradition, culture or relgion?

Especially horrendously hurtful, abusive, unfair, unjust, cruel, pointless and down right stupid actions?

Why not commun sense to work out which to keep, which to ditch and which to adopt from others.

And which are only good in certain circumstances but not in others or can be sensibly done ie you can drink only in moderation if and only if the effect it has on you is harmless to you or others ie table wine or you dont turn into a yob or get additced.

Or say gambling... pub poker yes, money high stakes poker that likely to be addictive or get dangerous no.

Likewise why not look at cultures deemed bad and working out are they really. ie heavey metal clubs despite the horror imagry are very safe and friendly and teach good values in looking after others and not abusing strenght, likewise witches are mostly hippy like.

Yest mush of islam and chrisitinaity despite saying its good causes a lot of hurt and harm and is unjust

We are humans not animals so we have a culture to adapt to, a religion to follow and a tradition to uphold our morals. Simple rite?

NO , NOT WHEN THOSE MORALS LOGICALLY ARE WRONG AS CAUSING THE HURT.

SAY WHAT IT' ITS DEATH BY TORTURE FOR FALLING IN LOVE, OR THAT GIRLS OR GUYS MUST BE SUBMISSIVE TO THE OTHER SEX?

WHERES THE MORALITY IN THAT?

WHY ADHERE TO THAT?

You might be interrested in reading Anton LaVey's "The Satanic Bible" if you haven't done so already. Much of what you say resembles LaVey's rationale.

"Bonzai trees, pagodas, Tai chi, noodle soup all are harmless and make life fun and pretty."
I like this quote. By the way, pagodas and similar architecture isn't just for show, but actually served to resist frequent earthquakes in the regions from which it originates.

One last thing. You might want to look into proper grammar before posting a proper question.

In a feeling, sure, regardless of if we are conversing approximately "organic" missionaries that supply no longer something yet goodness and style, help and coaching, nutrition and drugs, alongside with the Gospel. replace is for specific to return on each occasion new issues are extra, even simply by fact the addition of electric energy, telephones, and televisions has replaced our very own way of life, society, and traditions. that fluctuate may be considered as "harm" via a organic traditionalist, ie somebody who thinks that each little thing could be completed "the way we've continually completed it", without wavering, without changing something. i think of the real question is, is that this modification continually a foul ingredient? A society that by no potential variations something is stagnant and lifeless. serious questioning is discouraged, technological advancements are not allowed, innovation is repressed. replace isn't continually a foul ingredient. we are able to apply the removing of a cancerous strengthen as an allegory; the surgical treatment does certainly deliver painful replace, however the completed result's a extra healthy physique. In related to extra healthy replace, evaluate the cultural practices of chinese language foot-binding, the Indian (Hindu) caste device, or some Polynesian cannibalistic practices. could all of those cultural traditions have been "left on my own", out of appreciate for the Indigenous cultures and ideology? For the main section, those practices have been abolished (i'm undecided with reference to the Caste device in India, or the cannibalism!) simply by fact the creation of distant places help and missionary workers. replace is for specific to return, the question is, with what automobile will it come? ideally, it won't contain violence and repression, yet we've all considered too a lot of human historic past to be pollyannic approximately such an concept. i might particularly have a missionary any day, than Ghengis Khan. regrettably, there are additionally many of the latter, and that they are extra aggressive than the former.

We are blessed in that we live in countries that outlaw footbinding and bad traditions..if they are done, then they are done on the quiet.
We should not condone the cruel practices that anyone does in a culture, religion or tradition..and education is needed to show people that such things are so harmful...
However, we DO need to respect peoples rights to freedom of religion etc as long as they are not practising cruelty etc.
If we try to say they do not deserve respect..then we need to look at our own way of life..some of our practices may be abhorrent to other people..should we respect the drink driver who kills others..should we respect people who go on a rampage just because they want to crash a party and then beat people to a pulp..should we respect people who do such horrific stuff in OUR society..and they don't even belong to a religion etc necessarily.
Isn't education etc a better way? Show people that foot binding etc etc is not acceptable here..and if they have no choice but to follow it then they need to go to a country that practices it.

Actually you misunderstand the reason the pig is seen as a dirty animal. In the part of the world where the stories of the bible and similar religious books were written, the land is quite rocky. When people died they were rarely buried more than a few feet underground and pigs tended to find the bodies and eat them. This is why the pig is viewed as being dirty - eating it would have been similar to canabalism.

A rather lengthy question with lots of additional comments. But the basic question. Why should one WITHHOLD respect, simply because you feel differently? That seems rather insecure.
eg, I am a vegetarian but respect the rights of those who are not....and would hope they would respect mine. If you cannot respect others it must make it harder to have self-respect.

its man made . it comes from the bowels of man. foot binding, veils, forced marriages. all human origin.as for the degradation of women, whether or not it be in covering them up in fabric, and /or trying to change them physically, or sell them for a price..is only a projection of man's guilt ridden thoughts that are impure in the first place. yes, cover that woman up in veils and cloth, so that you and your weak/warped mind doesn't tempt you to rape her...so lets cover her up, and if she does get raped , just murder her!!so You don't become shameful. how weak is that?
