Do people realise that complimenting someone will make them feel a lot better than insulting someone.

Not only does it make you feel good, but it can brighten their day too. Or shoot them down and make them feel bad if they have just insulted you.

Take the higher ground. It always feels better!!!

I do practice what I preach. Being insulted rips my heart out as I try to be kind to everyone, even those that I don't necessarily think too highly of.

If I insult somebody, it is never intentional, and I will always apologise and follow up with a sincere compliment when I realise what I have done.

I will just add that if i compliment someone that has insulted me, it is always a sincere compliment.... It just happens top be a bonus that they usually feel bad for insulting me.

If I don't genuinely feel there is something to compliment someone on I wont give one. I just smile and tell them to have a nice day - and yes, I do mean it.

I agree with you. I am the sort who believes that if there is nothing nice to say about a person, I prefer to shut my mouth.
It's pointless to insult someone knowing how I would feel if I was in their shoes.

Compliment is better of course. But sometimes it happens that you can insult somebody with a compliment. Like, you say compliment about the feature that you know the person has complexes...

The only thing I don't do is compliment the arrogant types because they already have a big ego why make it bigger? Yea compliments are nice especially if it doesn't come with a cheesy pick up line afterwards.

I would say compliment because if everything would be insult it could be World War 100 by now or maybe people won't exist at all.

It's nice to be complimented but it has to be meant!

I would rather someone say nothing to me rather then give me a compliment that wasn't heart felt.

But: you have heard of the phrase " Flatter to deceive " ? Any compliments (rare) I get go through one ear and out the other --- they don't register. Because from experience, I know that 99.9% of them are bs.

people who are constantly insulting others are insecure with themselves and before anyone can point out their flaws they seem to think it will make them appear better if they point out something about another person-whom they are probably jealous of-they don't even notice that everyone sees right thru them and they look like an ass-hole:)
