No, I don't see it as being all that offensive, (some people would take offense though.) However, I don't think I've heard the term applied to other religion's holy books. I've never heard anyone called a Koran Thumper for example.

You know I never really considered "Bible Thumper" a derogate term. In fact I am proud of that cause it identified me with the book that I believed tells me the truth about who God is and how he can live in my heart. I never considered what I do "going overboard" especially since it is my life, and it's natural to me, because of Christ living in me the hope of glory.
What you call "going overboard" is really the clash between two natures that can't help but clash because they are direct opposites of each other.

Bible thumper and Jesus freak and terms like that don't bother me at all. You say we "go overboard with our religion". That's because of what we believe. We believe we are all sinners who could never come into the presence of a Holy, Righteous God and thus we were destined to be lost for an eternity. But because God is a compassionate God who is " not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance"(2Peter3:9) He sent His only Son to die for the sins of the world so they we might have eternal life. How could you not go overboard for that kind of a God. To follow this God in a lukewarm way after all He did for us is to trample the blood of Christ under your feet.

Peace be with you. The truth shall make you free
Do you preach the Words spoken by Jesus Christ, or do you preach the words spoken by another, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said "The words I speak unto you they are spirit they are life"
Do not claim to be a believer in Christ Jesus, if you follow the teaching of someone other then Jesus, Jesus will deny he ever knew you.

Its better to 'thump' the Bible, rather than ' thump' our own understanding or imagination.
