How about orajel does that work on the skins surface? How long does it take to take effect? How long before it wears off?

This is a bad move on your part. Get to a doctor's and have them cut out the wood professionally. When you do things like this yourself, you open up a route for a nasty infection, you may pass out and cause a head injury, you may do further damage, etc. The "surgeon" who answered above me has got it right. You need to stop asking these questions, and start driving yourself to the ER or to your doctor's office.

Anything you apply topically won't affect anything but the surface of your skin. It will still hurt like heck once you cut!

you shouldn't´t use emla if the skin is not intact, the reason is the same that you can´t get any other anesthetics without prescription and it is that you can have a allergic reaction and you can die for it if you are not in a proper place with doctors or paramedics, so, stop asking for this things and go to the doctor, it´s not safe to cut yourself anyways without anatomy knowledge and sterilize materials

re-orajel- yea it works!-problem is the surface is only the surface and anything below that will still hurt like hell-surface wounds are not usually painfull enough to need painkillers either- anything deeper and more painfull should be seen by a doc- - truth-
