You should not do it yourself, but if you insist on it....you can get anything topical that ends in the word 'caine'. It means that it numbs tha area it is applied to. Then afterward, apply Neosporin or alcohol for infection and keep it dry and covered.

I'm going to be up-front... you are CRAZY! Most likely you're only doing this because you're scared of the hospital.
Honestly, you are going to experience much more pain doing it yourself than you will at a hospital. They will completely put you to sleep (if nessecary) or numb the entire area completely using either a cream or localized shot. They'll have it out in an instant!
You're risking infection and overall doing more damage than you had to begin with! Take my advice as a nurse and go to a hospital!

Ewww...this doesn't sound like a good idea. Any decent local anethestics require a prescription to obtain. You might try finding something over the counter that contains lidocaine, but I don't know of any brand names. My best advice? Go to your doctor's and get that taken out professionally.

At your local hospital's emergency room. Seriously. If you need to cut in order to get an object out of your flesh, see a doctor.

chances are that if it is that painfull then it is already infected-the best advice is to seek medical assistance-a foot infection can be real tricky-and any local would have to be injected-dangerous(and illegal)- just do like many of us Americans have to do and owe the er- an infection can cripple or kill you- I am sorry that our country can not afford to keep us healthy-they must figure that we working poor people are expendable-seriously now-get it looked at!!!!!

You wouldn't be able to purchase a local anesthetic anywhere. You can purchase topical anasthetics over the counter at most drug stores. There's one called Emla cream.

IF YOU NIBBLE AT IT SLOWLY WITH A PAIR OF TOENAIL OR FINGERNAIL CLIPPERS YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET IT WITHOUT ANESTHETIC. IF YOU SOAK YOUR FOOT FOR SEVERAL HOURS IN EPSOM SALT AND HOT WATER IT MIGHT SOFTEN THE SKIN TISSUE ENOUGH BEFORE USING THE NAIL CLIPPERS OR TOENAIL CLIPPERS. NIBBLE THE SKIN GRADUALLY IN A SMALL CIRCLE AROUND THE PLACE WHERE THE WOOD INSTEAD OF GOING RIGHT INTO THE PLACE WHERE THE SPLINTER IS. AS FOR ANESTHETIC ASK A REPUTABLE PHARMACIST . HOP I HELPED.
