'kafu' (寡婦)is 'widow' or (カフ)is 'caffeinated coffee'. Your name in Japanese is 'kashii'(カシー).

I think what that application tried to do is to translate "Cathy" into Japanese by translating each of the individual syllables of your name (Ca-thy) into its similar Japanese syllable. That's why the "ka" in "kafu" is the same as the "Ca" in "Cathy". But the problem starts when the application tries to translate the "thy" or "thee" wpart of your name---in Japanese, there is no "thee" sound.

For instance, here are some "American" names and how they would sound translated into Japanese:
-Mark= maruku (pronounced mah-roo-koo)
-Linda= rinda (reen-da)

My favorite is McDonald's: ma-ku-do-na-ru-do

See what I mean. The thing is, there really isn't a correct way to translate any English name into Japanese. You pretty much just translate each syllable into a similar Japanese syllable.

When translating your name into Japanese, I would guess that it would sound like "kah-tee" or "ka-shee".

The application that said your name is kafu in Japanese is totally incorrect. Your name should be "kyashii" (the second "i" is not pronounced like in Hawaiian: both "i"s are pronounced as a single, long "i").

The word kafu in Japanese means "cuff" in English, as in the cuff of one's sleeve.
