What kind of a box? - a cube has six - a square/rectangle box without a lid has five - or you could make something with more or less side - a triangle box or a hexagon box,etc.

it has 6 sides and multiply by 2 it has 12 if you take into consideration the surface of the inner sides as well. primarily we would focus on the cube/boxes outer surface but bear in mind, that could be thoroughly be considered if the space inside was completely filled like maybe a brick that is completely of fixed moecules and ...... blah, blah, blah...(that wasnt really necessary, lol)
