I took the advice of many Christians and read CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity", mainly because I was interested in his take on the problem of suffering. Lewis reckons there's not only a God, but also a second being called "Satan". His theology of suffering makes little sense without accepting the existence of this second supernatural being.

Supernatural beings are those invisible entities that regularly break the laws of nature in order to further their own will or that of their followers, for example as a result of prayer.

The first of the ten commandments (Deut 5:7) states "Thou shalt have none other gods before me," which implies that there exist a number of other competing candidates.

Could I have a census, please?

Well, you have the one true God, Jehovah who is the creator and then his Son, Jesus Christ who is known in heaven as Michael the Archangel who was God's Masterworker, everything with the exception of him, came into existence through him, then there are the angels, cherubs, and seraphs, and lastly, those of the 144,000 whom God bought from the earth with his Son's sacrifice. Then on the evil side, you have Satan and his demons. All in all, there are more than 100,000,000 spirit persons.

Hit and miss. Satan was never any sort of "god". In Judeo-Christian myth he was a Seraphim (angel) and God's right-hand man who defied God, waged a war on Heaven, and was cast down along with all the other angels who faught alongside him. Now he spites the holy by torturing the Christians that sinned.

The Commandment which you quoted means that the Judeo-Christian God is the only god and were you to worship anything else (e.i. a God from some other religion) you'd be sinning.
Keep in mind this is only the Christian's standpoint and most religions have similar tennets.

C.S LEWIS Is the Best!!!!!!!
Yes "Mere Christianity" Awesome reading!!!
"Screwtape Letters" is also a great read too!!!!!!

There are no other gods only one God.

You will notice that in the 7th Commandment it says you shall have no other gods before me"

"gods" is referred to with a small 'g' where, whenever scripture is referring to God, or the Lord, its always with a captal "G" or "L' etc.

you will notice this is everywhere in the bible, great importance is placed on the emphasis of capital lettering or non-capital lettering before a name.

Whenever scripture refers to a god or gods, with a small "g" it is speaking from mans perspective on what we call gods. For example the the god of bahl or other man made "gods" of stone, metal, wood etc.

These of coarse are no God's at all but all false.
You will not see any other Gods mentioned in the entire bible with a capital "G" only God.
There is only 1 God, and he has three facets, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit entwined into 1...God, beginning end and creator of all, including the finger your using to scroll your computer mouse right now as you read this text.

Thanks for the census

I'm sorry, but to think that Casper and his friends exist on the same level as god and the devil really makes me wonder what you have been smoking. God, being infinite in all ways, defies description. The Devil, a creation on the same God, is merely a symbol of moral behavior, if you are not Good, you then have to be Bad. And depending on how detailed you wish to be devils are really manifestations of Lucifer, God's right hand man. Mythology and all of its apparitions, haven't been seen lately because the majority of us are educated and don't believe that jealous, spiteful gods live up in a high place trying to think of ways to torture mortal man. I believe that the supernatural is as best described as a consensual hallucination which you brain uses to explain things that occur beyond your conscious senses. Had deja vu? Felt that something was about to happen and it did? Phoned somebody you haven't talked to in years, to find out something weird had just happened to them? Supernatural that what it is. Or is it when you are asleep, the the mind programmers use their device to make you believe in this stuff when you are awake?

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Lots of different ones. It's referring to the fact that anything that you trust/believe in more than God himself would be considered a god to you. Like, pride, materialism, greed, wrath, lust, or anything that takes you away from God. He's saying to put Him first in all things, everything else comes last.

don't mess with God, he's old and sometimes slower in our eyes to answer. But don't do it. A good thing to do is camp out in the wilderness read and study , fast, seek him while he can be found. If you find him it will be the best that could be.
