Go out and buy some dowels that match the diameter of the bottoms of the legs on the table. They should be about 3 inches. Drill a 1/4 inch hole about 3 inches into the bottoms of the original table legs. Take the dowels and drill the same size holes all the way through them. Then drill a 1/2 inch countersink hole in what will be the new bottoms. Go get some threaded rod that will tightly fit into the holes of the table legs depending on how high you want to raise it I am assuming 3-5 inches or so. try to get all three inches of the threaded rod into the table legs they should be straight and don't worry about using vice grips and messing the threads up. Once you get the threaded rod into the bottoms of the legs you should be able to twist on the dowels. Before you do make sure your threaded rod is cut to the right length. It should set at least 3/4 of an inch below the bottom(what will rest on the floor) make sure your countersink is deep enough to accomodate this. Just before you join them together put some woood glue on it. Once you do that slide a 1/2 inch washer on and a 1/2 nut tighten with a deep well socket. Tighten it but don't gorilla tighten it. the wood will split. Sand where they join together and restain as needed so it matches.

The only time I eat anything away from the dinner table is when I have a midnight snack--I usually stand over the sink and eat. Other than that, we eat all our meals at the kitchen table. We can talk about our day, current events, etc. Plus I have two toddlers, so we *have* to eat there, lol. Even when they're older, we'll still eat at the table. Who wants to sit in front of a TV like a zombie when you can actually spend time with and talk with your family?

You can adjust wheels under each leg. I am serious, there are wheels for furniture, I bet you can find them in a DIY store. They will increase the height, they look good and they are practical to move the table when you need to. Make sure they have brakes, or the table will be rolling around when you don't want to. It's easier and cheaper than changing the entire legs too!

If you have a drill, you can find the center of each leg and drill straight up into it (a drill press would be even easier, but doesn't sound like you have one). Then you could screw in a bun foot or other piece of stock millwork. Basically they're the same pieces you would use on the top of the newel posts in your stair railing, but you're turning it upside down and using it on the feet of your table. They can either be stained or painted and cost about $4 each.

Since the table was fairly inexpensive, Adding dowels, buns, or other methods may not be worth while, or too troublesome. Have you thought about lowering the height of your chairs? You could use a fine-toothed saw such as a hack saw to remove a couple of inches or whatever height you desire. fine toothed saw will leave a nicer looking finish on the legs.

Good luck

Many home repair stores sell individual legs. If they're cheap enough (and tall enough) it might be worth the investment to install new legs yourself.

Get a wood worker to copy the legs on his lathe and make them longer. Use the same wood and stain it to match. That would be the only way I would think.
